Guitars and guitar tabs

Guitars are the primary instruments in rock, blues, country, flamenco, and many forms of pop. Guitars may be played acoustically, where the tone is made by vibration of the strings and modulated by the hollow body, or the guitar may rely on an amplifier that can electronically remake the tone. The electric guitar was introduced in the early 1900s and is still abig influence in popular culture.

Guitar tab consists of a series of lines. Each line represent a guitar string so a standard guitar tab have six lines staff while bass guitar tab has four. Guitar tab is not standardised and different sheet music publishers like magazines and websites like fretplay.com adopt different conventions. Songbooks and guitar magazines usually include a legend setting out the convention in use. Many guitar tabs here at Fretplay have such an explenation at the bottom of the tab.
