You get what you pay for It focused almost exclusively on their 1982 album Restless and Wild (4 songs) and 1983's Balls to the Wall (3 songs), with a pair of songs from 1985's Metal Heart and the title track from 1986's Russian Roulette. The 1992 Accept compilation No Substitutes was your typical low budget record company cash grab, with crappy cover artwork, no digital remastering, and uneven song selection. That means Accept and Breaker were totally overlooked, as was the post-Udo material (though that might have been a good choice, all things considered). I suppose we should be grateful they didn't stack the album with live recordings, which happens all too frequently with these cutout compilations. If you're looking for a decent Accept "best of" compilation, there are plenty of better offerings to choose from (Restless: The Best and Collection are both worthwhile). No Substitutes is really only useful in that you can pick it up for a dollar or two and use it as a "gateway drug" to hook people on this classic and influential German heavy metal band. . good for a first time accept listener, but that's it the exclusion many solid and classic accept tracks, such as restless and wild, breaker, son of a bitch, im a rebel, love child, flash rockin man, midnight mover, neon nights etc. as a true heavy metal and accept fan, i can tell you this compilation is unacceptable. makes this a less than average sampling of accept's career. Accept are one of the greatest bands to come from the NWOBHM era of heavy metal, and this sampling of a mere ten songs does not do justice to what i consider the best German NWOBHM band. If you are listening to accept for the first time, i would suggest the album staying a life or balls to the wall. If you want an affordable cd that has a few of accept's greatest hits and some subpar accept songs, buy this. Lost in the Powerful 80's The music is a bit aged now. I have liked Accept since the mid 80's and I am glad they did put this cd together of there better tracks. Most 20 something people will be like what is this? Songs like Fast as a Shark sound kind of funny even to me now. It is a good addition to your 80's collection though. Aggressive and energetic music. It's a fairly decent collection of hits. This is the only disc that I've got from Accept. Their sound is like a mixture of Judas Priest and AC/DC. The singer (Udo Dirkschneider) has a lot of power behind his vocals. He sounds a bit like Brian Johnson from AC/DC. These guys play straight-ahead hardrock--their music is full of thick guitar riffs. Accept's musicianship is tight and skilled; their songwriting is not bad either. The songs that stand out are "Too High to Get It Right," "Princess of the Dawn," and "Balls to the Wall. " The rest of the songs are okay. While I don't think that Accept is an original band, I still believe that they are respectable. They are aggressive and energetic in their approach.
