Ace of Base Secure Their Place in Pop Music History
S. Pop music is suffering an identity crisis - especially in the U. Americans are increasingly turning away from manufactured groups assembled by promoters and solo artists whose careers are based on silicone and sexual innuendo.

That spells good news for the return of Ace of Base, the Swedish band that achieved notoriety in the Guiness Book of World Records for the highest selling debut album in history (The Sign/Happy Nation).

"Beautiful Morning" is the debut single off of their new European album "Da Capo" (planned for a U. S. release most likely in Spring of 2002).

It is a gem of a song featuring a skippy, reggae-influenced beat not all that different from that which made them world superstars in 1993-1994 with such tracks as "The Sign" and "Happy Nation. "

As Ace of Base developed as artists they have incorporated more instrumental and orchestral sounds - which provide a refreshing boost to this track. The lyrics are superb which is a badge of honor for Ace of Base given that the siblings Jonas, Jenny and Linn Berggren - 3 of the 4 members of the group - wrote them. Past singles from this Swedish juggernaut of musical talent have sometimes struggled on lyrics, but this time the Swedes got it right.

Vocally it also marks an impressive improvement for the group. Lead vocalist Jenny Berggren conveys passion and determination as she convinces listeners that "the best in life is free - I give it all away, and I wonder what more is to come" as her "Beautiful Morning" changes her mind about her outlook on a life that has its bumps and bruises.

The song has a climactic flourish that includes a powerful choir providing for stunning and complex choruses that will have you humming all day long.

Many people may do a double-take at a 2002 comeback by Ace of Base. But the fact that they write and produce most of their own music distinguishes them from so many other pop artists. That is a testament to their true skills as musicians and vocalists and suggests why they're still such a powerful force on the music scene some 10 years after they first began to releaes their music commercially.

"Beautiful Morning" no doubt helps to secure their rightful place in history as one of the best pop bands - if not THE best pop band - to have ever climbed a sales chart or dominated a radio station's airplay list.

The best in life may not be free - but if it isn't then it surely isn't more than the cost to buy this CD single.


Pure, blissful Pop goodness
If need to brighten a gloomy day listen to this and things will be better. Ace of Base never lets me down. A beautiful melody mixed with positive words. Great for any AoB fan, or anyone for that matter.
