Still Sharp This time, radio followed suit and gave Adams his first singles successes with the title track and "Straight From The Heart. The writing team of Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance were really starting to hit stride on their follow-up to You Want It, You Got It. " The original side one (cuts 1-5) is flawless, setting up the run of terrific songs that would propel Adams to super-stardom on Reckless.
Had this been the album after "Reckless," the hits probably would have run a bit longer. Both "This Time" (which crept up to number 24 on Billboard) and "The Best Was Yet To Come" were hook-ready songs that have since become stalwarts in Adam's vast catalog. Adams was mining the Springsteen-lite vein that was so profitable for the likes of Mellencamp and Bon Jovi, but didn't quite have the cache those acts did; Adams was oft refered to as one of the nicest guys in rock. That made it hard to get the kind of 'respect' a socailly active man like Mellancamp or a bad-boy like Tom Petty or BonJovi would pull down from the press, even as Adams began pulling down concert and album salers numbers that would make Sting jealous. Even so, the slick rock of "Cuts Like a Knife" holds up well after all these years.
Very good but the best was yet to come !
This cd is full of hits, (six if I am not wrong) and give us a preview of the following album to come, the multi-hits bomb "Reckless". This is the album that put Bryan Adams in the path of success. Many artist would be please to get six hits in their career, Bryan got it in a single album and he did it more than one time ! We are very proud of you Bryan ! .
Na na na na

Flashback to MTV in the early 80's (you remember. "Cuts Like A Knife" album is an endearing listening experience, most notably it's title track. . . when MTV actually played music videos) and MTV sweetheart Bryan Adams and his videos were the mainstay. Up until then I could take or leave Bryan's music, until that one fateful day, my girlfriend at the time calls me and says "I look just like the girl on the 'Cuts Like A knife' video. Look it's on now!" She felt that she looked like the girl on the diving board in the video, I begged to differ (and kept it to myself), but I digress. Yes, I'm sure MTV had a lot to do with the album's success, but the title track and other songs clearly show Bryan has found his groove in the annals of rock history.
"This Time" is a more subdued sing-a-long that has become a favorite on those Lite-FM stations, as well as "Straight From the Heart", which is the archetypal slow dancesong that was played last at your junior high prom. I'm not entirely a fanatic of the other tracks on the album, but they're certainly worth a listen to. And Marissa, wherever you are, yes, you really DID look like the girl on the diving board. .
