Get Your Wings
It has always been and chances are it always will be my all time favorite album. Aerosmith-Get Your Wings *****

For me personally it doesn't get any better than Aerosmith's Get Your Wings. This is the one that changed everything for me. I fell in love with Aerosmith because of this album, and wanted to learn how to play guitar because of this album. Not to mention Aerosmith has been my favorite band ever since.

Get Your Wings was Aerosmith's sophomore album and the one that got everybody outside of Boston interested. Their first album, the self titled Aerosmith had the minor hit 'Dream On' that did not become a big hit until it was re-released in 1975. Get Your Wings was less bluesy and more raw New York sex, drugs, and rock n' roll than the debut. Steven Tyler had finally found his amazing voice, and perfected the art of the rock lyric. And while Joe Perry and Brad Whitford do not play on the album (they were too high) they did write all of the guitar parts as you hear them. Tom Hamilton plays the best bass of his life, and like always Joey Kramer brings the funk to the kit.

'Same Old Song A Dance' opens the song with a killer slide guitar riff, and a horn section (which would become a classic combination for the boys as their career went on). The lyrics depict drugs, sex, and a really screwed up situation. 'Lord Of The Thighs' and 'Woman Of The World' are two of the best songs the band ever recorded. Killer grooves, great guitar and vocals make them classics. 'Spaced' was the closest Aerosmith came to pshycadelia, and they did a damn good job of it too. 'S. O. S. (Too Bad) has some of the best guitar work on the album, and some of the better lyrics Tyler would write during the 70's. 'Pandora's Box' closes the album leaving you wanting more while 'Seasons Of Whither' is haunting and eerie, and has since gone on to be a live favorite as well as an Aerosmith classic. The bands cover of the Yardbirds 'Train Kept A Rollin' is for me the ultimate version. It too has become an Aerosmith classic.

So while Toys In The Attic, the bands next album made them superstars, it was Get Your Wings which gave Aerosmith a face and made the world take notice. Dare I say, Get Your Wings is the greatest rock n' roll album of all time!?.
