Essential Alan Parsons Project is just that, ESSENTIAL.
It has all the best stuff. Essential Alan Parsons Project is just that, ESSENTIAL. And not just the big hits. (Not that there were that many big hits. After all, the world at large doesn't have the best taste in music and can't appreciate all the good music Alan Parsons did. )

Great sound quality and all at a good price. Highly recommend this set.

Parsons & Wolfe
I have their greatest hits, volumes 1 & 2 and the Definitive Collection. Excellent collection of Parsons/Wolfe tunes. This is far more superior than those other albums. Would recommend this to all Alan Parsons fans.

The Ideal Compilation for the Casual Fan
Best of all, SONY/BMG has included the once lost gemstone No Answers Only Questions (Final Version) that Eric Woolfson composed and guitarist Ian Bairnson arranged. Along with The Definitive Collection, The Essential Alan Parsons Project gives the casual fan the proper mixture and proportion of radio hits, Alan Parsons' signature instrumentals, and Eric Woolfsons' thought-provoking ballads. Everything has been digitally remastered from the best available source tapes. The end result is a product that sounds very good on a moderately priced home system and stunning on audiophile-quality speakers and equipment. If the casual fan sought advice as to where to begin enjoying The Alan Parsons Project, I would whole-heartedly recommend this collection.

Sounds and vocals are absolutely stunning.
While it doesn't have every song that could have made it, it is enough of a teaser to want you to listen to more. I found the clarity and new digital recording to be so much better then what I had expected.
Considering that some of these songs were done over 25 years ago I really liked it. I also liked how they grouped the songs from the various albums.

My only dislike is the words and music at the beginning of "Lets talk about me" are way too low and lost with out cranking the sound until they get the song up to speed. It's about 15 seconds that you think your stereo died.

Still a great value for the money. .

Not necessarily "The Essential"
It would've been great if they had merely added a disc's worth of songs to that already excellent collection, but in fact, this collection is missing a total of ten songs from that one, including the tracks "(The System Of) Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether", "Breakdown", "Pyramania" and "You Don't Believe". This import entry into Sony/BMG's "The Essential Colletion" series is not necessarily better than 1997's The Definitive Collection, it just has more songs.
