"Eve" is APP at it's best!
I always assumed that this album came about because someone needed to vent about a relationship gone bad. "Eve" is not a pleasant look at relationships but that does not make it a bad album. Personally I find it somewhat insightful and, unfortunately, I also find myself identifying with some of it. In fact,the only APP album I like better than this one is "Turn of a Friendly Card". .


impressive album, and VERY underrated
An album that indicates to most people that the Alan Parsons Project was starting to go downhill as far as songwriting is concerned, and perhaps people were beginning to feel Alan Parsons was getting a little *too* comfortable with their songwriting habits and abusing the formula. Eve is, in most peoples eyes, an average album.

Me? I think Eve is a GREAT album. Not only am I really surprised how memorable the songs are, I'm also surprised the songwriting is on the same level as the three albums the band released before this one. Honestly, there's not a single weak moment here. Sure, the album sounds like a typical late 70's rock album with an influence in the disco movement thanks to the drums and the rhythm beats, but who cares?

These songs are *very* good. The fact the album ends with some women given the chance to showcase their vocal talent is quite a welcome surprise. I love this album and refuse to believe the band was losing their touch with Eve. .

You've been Winding Me Up too long...
This record gets it's share of mediocre reviews from AP fans, mostly due to comparing it to works like "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" and "The Turn of a Friendly Card. Eve was the fourth album by The Alan Parsons Project and was released in 1979. " However, this album easily holds it's own in the pantheon of APP albums. It reflects the feelings of a man who, for whatever reasons, is just tired of dealing with women. It's really that simple, and I cannot imagine any man not stirred up by this album at some point in life.

It also flows through the emotional roller coaster (of dealing with a bad relationship) perfectly. It begins with the driving force of "Lucifer," then takes you right into the sharp and pointed feelings of "You Lie Down with Dogs" and "I'd Rather be a Man. " The lyrics here are not politically correct by today's standards, but neither are they offensive. They simply and appropriately express a guy's feelings, and they are superb.

The absolute zenith of the album are "Winding Me Up" and "Damned if I Do. " Listen to these in the right frame of mind, and they are mind blowing and unforgettable. This album, along with many others in the APP catalog, were life-changing for me when I discovered all of them in 1994 and 1995.

If you have ever been angry with or hurt by a woman, or simply allowed yourself to be used by a woman for much, much too long, and all the head games that go along with that, give this album a try. I recommend repeated listening at a volume level higher than that of the average conversation.

My review is for the original "Eve" album with 9 songs, not the one with the bonus material.

Lowest grade I'd give a Parsons album.
I have no idea what happened in the recording studio, but it wasn't good. This album honestly have much to it. A few songs almost get "there" but don't. There wasn't a 2 1/2 star rating or I would have given it that. A band is going to make a bad album sometime and this is APP's. Thank the gods there are no more like this in APP's catalog.
