Steep decline in quality
Tripod starts off with three standard sludge tracks before finally perking up with the semi-ballad Heaven Beside You. Granted, the brilliance of Jar of Flies was a tough act to follow, but unfortunately Tripod doesn't measure up to AIC's previous efforts, either. This is followed by two more standard sludge tracks before we come upon Shame In You and God Am, two of the bands most underrated and obscure songs. These are followed by three more sludge songs until the album ends with the great Over Now.

There are times when it's clear that bands are becoming strained and starting to lose inspiration, and Tripod is one of the best examples of this. It's not a bad album, but the songwriting is clearly not up to par. Most of the tracks lack propulsion, hooks, and decent solos, and a few of them seem to go on forever. One of the problems is that AIC really lost their hard rock edge that was so prevalent on Facelift and certain songs of Dirt; the heavy songs of Tripod are too slow, sludgy, and dull. Still, the album is worth a listen if you're a fan of the band. .


must have if your interested in AIC
for some reason i never bought this chains cd. i got and love all the others. . got it off amazon about a week ago. . i cant stop listening to it. . i really enjoy it. might be my favorite chains album. . god am is such a good track. . they all are. . get this one,u wont regret it.


$6.99 Vinyl from GoHastings is a CD! FYI...
99 from GoHastings. Great album but don't expect to be getting the record for $6. If you order it from this seller then you will receive the CD. It's ashame that this continues to be listed at $6. 99 from them as the only reason it's a best selling "record" right now is because of the wrong price. .


Sludgy indulgence
Although it does contain a handful of tracks worthy of their best, and plenty of signature Cantrell/Staley chorus dynamics, the majority churns through with detached apathy. AIC's final self-titled studio release is sadly not what fans would have likely wanted. I think you can literally hear the grunge genre dying in spots. .


Amazing album... poor listing....
I'm a die-hard AIC fan, and being one I already have this CD and i came through this looking for the vinyl LP. Don't get me wrong this Alice in Chains at its finest. And sadly in this albums "product details", it is written to say LP Record, and what i received in the mail was certainly not the record, but a CD. . . . . WASTE do not buy if looking for vinyl. I searched Alice in Chains vinyl and looked through to read it was a LP record but was sadly mistaken to learn it was a CD after I got it in the mail a week later. DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE!!!! THIS IS A CD!!!!!.
