Possibly Allman's Best
As a long time ABB fan (and cover band musician doing their stuff since the late 70s) I can't think of anything since 'Brother's' that has been able to create a mood and groove on the first song and not lose it throughout the album. I can truly say, for the past two years this album and one other have been the only ones to grace my cd player at work, and I just never get tired of it. Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks replicate and even surpass the early chemistry the classic lineup had, and create just the most incredible buttery bluesy guitar tones and melodic sweet spots every time. Desdemona just replaced Stormy Monday for me. . . and Firing Line's creamy slide riffs are like melted butter. Dang. Just buy the album or download an mp3 of any one of the songs - hearing is much better than my pointless review here. I even dare say I haven't listened to Fillmore or Peach since buying this album.

WOW! OUT OF THE PARK!
It's as good as 'Eat A Peach' or 'Brothers And Sisters'. I don't care if you're a purist with the thought that the ABB were only good when Duane was alive or when Dickey Betts was in the band - this album recaptures the true spirit of the ABB when they were young and hungry during the early 70's. I actually find it a bit spooky that Derek Trucks reminds me so much of Duane. It's like part of Duane reincarnated in Derek or he channels him from the great beyond. Whatever it is - it's damn good. Warren Haynes chops are in top shape too. These two guys play extremely well off of each other. One suggestion would be that they do more harmony guitar parts - like those in 'Jessica' or 'Ramblin' Man' for instance. That is an essential part of the ABB sound that seems to have been overlooked a bit. 'Desdamona' is a hauntingly beautiful piece of work and I love the jazzy, Vanmorrison-ish 'Moondance' break-down jam; it totally rocks. I saw some this material being performed on a Beacon show DVD and it was just as good live if not better than the studio recordings. The ABB have always been at their best live and this tradition continues forth. Go and see them in New York at the Beacon Theatre - they usually play there for a few weeks every Spring.

The Allman Brothers Band "Hittin' the Note" CD
GREAT MUSIC PERIOD!!! BUY IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT!!! THANKS!!!. A BIG AMEN TO ALL THE 100 PREVIOUS REVIEWERS WHO GAVE IT A 5 STAR RATING!!! THIS IS SIMPLY A GREAT STUDIO ALBUM CD BY THE ALLMAN'S.

generally does hit the note
If you enjoyed the Duane Allman/Dickey Betts guitar combo, you will dig Haynes/Trucks here. this is Derek Truck's first studio album with ABB.

Percussion and guitars
Much of my guitar style is derived from Duane and Dicky. I've been an Allman Brothers Band fan since the beginning. It's been tough through the years to watch Greg fighting so hard to re awaken the original energy of the band. Sadly, mostly without success. This album asserts itself from the first measure as a departure from re-hashing the old licks, while retaining the synergy of Duane and Dicky with new hands Warren and Derek. Truly great guitar work.

But the biggest shift for this (non-drummer) fan is the addition of Marc Quiñones on percussion. It's hard to overstate the impact of this guy. He adds just enough Jazz/Latin flavour to the Southern Blues/Rock sound of the dueling Gibsons and Greg's older and wiser vocals to make you stop and wonder; "What the heck is going on here?" It's enough different that it announces not so much a new direction for ABB as a powerful refinement of Duane and Greg's original mission. The new lineup coupled with a fistful of original songs make for a real keeper near the top of the stack. .
