The Jams Are the Thing
Here, the vocals aren't always that good, and there are definitely sound issues, particularly on the first few tracks (but if you buy this from "Hittin' the Note," the official Allman Brothers merchandise center, they warn you quite clearly about that - the sound got tweaked as the show went along). I echo the other reviewers who have pointed out that this is not a polished recording; if that's what you're looking for, the Fillmore shows are the place to go. However, these technical quibbles are not the real point, and certainly not a good enough reason not to buy this recording, one of the last before Duane Allman's tragic death in October of '71. Here, it's the jams. Duane and Dickey Betts, trading back and forth. Gregg Allman's flawless B-3. The magnificent rhythm section keeping everything grounded, even as the frontmen go off on prolonged free-forms of nearly 26 minutes on "You Don't Love Me" and nearly 20 minutes on both "Dreams" and "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. " Taking established material (or, in the case of "Blue Sky," brand new material) and going off into dreamy, spacey new territories. They were so tight and well-oiled at this juncture, a fierce machine. It's a crying shame (for many reasons) that Duane was subtracted from the equation only six weeks later.

For me, this band has always been about the playing, and the playing was rarely better than here. It's raw, to be sure, but pearls and diamonds start out that way, too. This is an unpolished musical gem to match any other.

Fillmore hard to match
A good show though equiptment/recording problems are apparent. . not professionally done like Fillmore. Unreasonable to expect the quality of the best live album ever, but the songs have energy-and there are some new ones like BLUE SKY. Early Allman Bros. had a setlist they rarely strayed from, and although they improvised, they stuck to blues scales so the conversation can become repetitive. Good addition for fanatics. . though Fillmoe East (original) is preferable, and enough for the casual fan.

Brilliant
The version of Blue Sky is incredible, priceless! Duane and Dickie Betts hammered out a version you will not believe ! . I'll keep it short, all the songs are great.

Blue Sky Played Live With Duane - Priceless!
But man oh man does this live version just blow away the studio version. Until I discovered this recording a couple of months ago I never knew the band played Blue Sky in a concert while Duane was still alive. Sure, the sound quality here isn't top-notch, but it's plenty good enough. The first five songs sound pretty bad, but by the time they get to Blue Sky it clears up real well, and this song alone makes the CD well worth buying. Duane Allman was THE greatest guitarist - ever. Everything he touches turns to gold. This concert was just a few short weeks before his tragic death, and if this CD has one drawback it is because it makes me sad all over again. The original Allman Brothers were the best. Duane got it all going. Damn, what a drag he died so young. RIP Duane and Berry - you guys are still missed and loved. Thanks for your great music. And thanks to those who had the wisdom to record it.

sound problems
but if your areal abb fan pick it up. sound was really off on this cd especially on the first disk second disk was better too bad they really sounded like they were on that night.
