Thief down to his heels Its bare and stark and fantastic. If you are going to own B sides of Tori, you have to have this one.
Worth it if only for the instrumental "OVER IT"
For anyone who loves Tori's work, this single is worth buying if only for the instrumental piano song "OVER IT" that is part of the piano suite, it's beautiful!.
A single worth having
Then there are others, like this version of "God", that are worth owning but don't have B-sides that shine. Out of the many CD singles of Tori Amos that I have, there are a few with such great B-sides that they make it to my player almost as often as her full-length albums. "God" is a great song, but it's not one of my favorite Tori songs. Her version of "Home on the Range" is very novel, but not incredibly impressive. The last two instrumentals are beautiful, and if I heard them for the first time today, I would be able to tell instantly that they were from the Under the Pink sessions. Their sound is the same as the instrumental opening of "Icicle". I think if these two songs, "All the Girls Hate Her" and "Over It", had been included on the full-length album, I would listen to them more. But right now, this is a single that I will take out to listen to once in a while, but won't be playing over and over again.
Tori's question for "God"
" Our everyday struggle to understand why bad things happen when so much goodness exists is still an ongoing saga. I know, at one time or another, we all had thought that "God, sometimes you just don't come through. Tori Amos pleads with "God" for answers. Her yearning for knowledge and strength shine through via her emotional and heartfelt lyrics. Her passion makes this composition personal and intimate. And it's this reason, that I feel connected to "God" and continue to find its message pertinent. .
'God' Great Single!
' The lyrics and the beat are so unique it is entrancing. With Tori's amazing voice and being a talented piano virtuoso - this blends together with studio sound to form an awesome rock song called 'God.
The other songs on this single come as a more different surprise: Home on the Range is Tori's version of the age old song, beautifully composed and played.
The big surprise are the last two tracks which are completely acoustic piano suites: 'All the girls hate her' and 'Over It. ' These are beautiful to listen to. They are a glimpse into the mind of Tori Amos the Pianist - not the rocker. And if we listen to her composition of these acoustic piano pieces and look at the titles of these pieces - they tell us a little more about her.
Great single!.
