fantastic
Has delicious electronic washes over delicate piano. One of her most under-rated albums, for sure. First disc only has a single miss: Datura. The rest of the first disc is incredible. Bliss, Josephine, Lust and 1000 Oceans make this album for me. The second disc is just as good, with fantastic live versions of some of my favourite songs. .

Still Orbiting
The night I got it, the only track I really enjoyed was 1000 Oceans. To Venus and Back took longer to grow on me than any Tori Amos album has so far. But I've given it another chance since then and I'm glad I did, because now I consider this to be one of my favorite Tori albums.

Bliss 4/5 - The opening line of the album - "Father, I killed my monkey" - originally was a big turn-off for me, but the song is definately worth listening to. After a while, the beginning begins to make sense.

Juarez 5/5 - Something about this song just does it for me. It felt too overcrowded when I first heard it, with her voice smaller and more under the music than I'm used to, but I realized that works so well with the overall theme of the song.

Concertina 3/5 - Concertina is a very upbeat song, refreshing after Juarez, with some interesting lyrics. Still, it sort of pales in comparison to the songs around it.

Glory of the 80s 4. 5/5 - One of my favorites lyrically.

Lust 5/5 - A very pretty, haunting melody. Beautiful lyrics.

Suede 4/5 - A nice dark, moody song. "My fear is great, greater than my faith, but I walk the missionary way. " The chorus isn't as good as the verses and the end drags on a little, but that doesn't stop me from playing it over and over.

Josephine 5/5 - Josephine is an achingly beautiful song. I'd like to wish it were longer, but I think it would lose its power if it was. This song tends to make me emotional. The lyrics and the sparse piano and drum backing make for the most touching song on the entire album.

Riot Proof 3/5 - I didn't like Riot Proof when I heard it for the first two or three times, but it grew on me. The only reason it doesn't have a 4 is the ending. I never can listen past the secong chorus, but everything before that is great.

Datura 2/5 - Datura is 8 minutes and 25 seconds, making it the longest on the album. I skip it most of the time when I'm listening to the album, but it's still a good song. It has its time and place. It makes good background or mood music.

Spring Haze 2/5 - This one never grew on me. I don't dislike it, I just never really got it.

1000 Oceans 5/5 - This song's emotional impact is a close second to Josephine. Beautiful lyrics, beautiful music, and flawless execution. A nice way to wind down the album. .

The first CD is one of my fave Tori cds of all time

To Venus and Back
The album peaked at #12 in the Billboard 200 and reached top ten in Norway and Australia. To Venus and Back being Amos 5th studio album and 1999 release contains two cds one being a studio album and the other being a live album. Singles released from this album are "Bliss", "glory of the 80's", "Concertina" and "1000 oceans". I love the experimental sound on this album and Amos mixed with electronic instruments leads to the album that I find so far to be favorite Tori Amos album. The booklet is very beatifull photos of Ms Amos. We get all the lyrics and list of whom plays what on the album. 5/5.

TWO SIDES OF TORI
Zebra", "cloud in my tongue" (one of my alltime favorites)and "girl" among others, this were also the times were Tori developed her "friends" (songs)as she uses to call them, to make them more colorfull with the addition of drums, bass, percussions, and not only guitar and her Bosse or harpsichord as she used to do after the release of "under the pink", she is Tori Amos, more than prolific, always giving her fans an excess of information, a charming confussion in her lyrics and providing her fascinating personality for our free interpretation, To Venus and back is a basic in her discography. Ambivalent, multifaced, dark and full of light , thats Tori Amos with "To Venus and back" one of her most admirable pieces of work, in this album Tori delighted fans with not only a full lenght album of then previously unreleased tracks such as "concertina" , "Juarez" , "glory of the 80s", "a thousand oceans" and "bliss" but she added an extra gift, with a bonus live cd were she recreates her now classics like "space dog" in an amazing way, "Mr.
