Good Music...Short CD
But I picked it up and as a long time April Wine fan I find this CD a very enjoyable listen. I was nervous about picking up this CD by the few samples I heard and everybody saying it's a blues CD. It's not the hard rockin' music they became famous for. . . but some nice blusey rock with a lot of bluesy soloing from Brian & Myles. The songs have a nice flow to them and I'm gad I picked up the CD. My only disapointment is the short running time at a little under 25 minutes they could have added a couple more songs in the same vein very easily. . . even threw in a cover to make the album at least a 30 min CD. Still if your a fan of the band chances are you'll want to own this disc. . . it is very good for what it is.

Best April Wine in Years
Myles' voice is just as great as it was and Brian's guitar work make this a must buy from April Wine fans as well as those who like the blues and rock. Not necessarily what you would expect to hear from April Wine, but definitely refreshing and GREAT bluesy guitar rock.

April Wine fans will enjoy this one
I still enjoy listening to the band because they have such a variety of music styles. I have been a fan of April Wine for nearly 25 years. This album sounds much like their early stuff with a more mellow sound. The only thing that seems to stay the same in all April Wine music is the voice. In my opinion, Myles Goodwyn can make any style of music sound good. I don't expect to hear these songs on the radio any time soon, but if you are a fan of April Wines varied musical collection, Roughly Speaking won't disappoint you.

also nice lyrics. i love april wine, this cd has a bluesy kinda stevie ray vaughn feel to it. myles goodwin's voice always stays fresh and clear. and also they can still rock with the best of them. i love the cd but i wish it was a little longer. two thumbs up though! .

Big Payoff For Long-time Fans
Greatest hits collections never reveal the heart of a band and if you want to know who they are this is the disc for you. If you don't know April Wine and want to give them a chance, I would go for this CD before any of the others. The Nature of The Beast may be the best seller worldwide and Harder Faster may be the best crafted, but that is not who this group is anymore. Get this disc and you get a full circle tour. Everything new is old again.

For those who loved Electric Jewels, Stand Back and The Whole World's Goin' Crazy LPs this is a very tasty collection indeed, but it may disappoint the quasi-metal fans who only like their harder side.

Roughly Speaking has already entered "classic" April Wine status for me. I'm a fan, so it's far too much work for me to compare this to anything than other Wine. But there is Wine that tastes bitter in my mouth (If You See Kay is one of the worst songs ever recorded by any group anywhere), so I don't love everything they do.

This CD reminds me of an LP. The limited number of cuts has resulted an effort that holds together much better than most full CD releases, and I think the recording method has helped here as well. We still get variety in the style of each song, maybe as much variety as we have ever had, yet it all fits together beautifully.

I am reminded most of The Whole World's Going Crazy LP, which for me is a good thing because that album is the one to beat as far as I am concerned. I would really love to take the time to analyze it more, but I just got it two weeks ago and my mind is changing daily about each cut.

If I had to sum it up, I would call this album (see I can't stop saying it) mature. There is nothing flashy here, it is straightforward, almost simple in execution, but the joy and musicianship within this simplicity shine through. Here is a great band, keeping it tight and dealing out the straight goods.

Now you're probably wondering why I didn't give this product all 5 stars. Well, unfortunately, there is what sounds like digital distortion on the I've Had Enough track, probably from the CD pressing and it nearly spoils a nice crisp guitar line. Unfortunate to be sure. I hope you get a pristine pressing.
