A+ Chaud! Fusing Pop/Dance & club music to a T, dance fanatics will be alarmed. I thought the bananas were done, NOT!, after their EXOTICA release in 2000 they're back prove they still got the stuff. "DRAMA" is an album you'll play from beggining to end without even thinking of pressing the next button. After one-go you'll be hooked. "Waterfalls", It's kind of an acoustic song and is a much slower pace than the rest of the Album, In my opinion they couldv'e put that closer to the end. I purchased this album back in 2005 and played it out. Song's like "Move In My Direction" and "Don't Step On My Groove" sounds like what "The Spice Girls" would be singing if they were still together, I know I hear Geri & Mel B. in the chorus of "Don't Step On My Groove", I'm not going crazy!. "Middle Of Nowhere" stands alone in this set, It has a mild samba flavour going, I love it, It's a very cute song. "Love Bite" "Don't Step On My Groove" "Hypnotic Tango" and "Frequency" have to be my favorites. If You're not a BANANARAMA fan at all you'll still appreciate this album if you love dance music, Sex is in, So this album sounds sexier than their previous ones. .
this feel-good record is one of the best
Keep in mind the versions of some of these songs you will hear in the clubs are not the album versions, but it doesn't matter. Ok, if you're interested in this you are either a long-time Bananarama fan(in which case you neeed to buy it), or you've heard a couple of the songs on satellite radio or in a club/bar(in which case you need to buy it). This album is fantastic. Any fan of electronic/dance music should own this asap! This is very similar to Dannii Minogue's "Neon Nights" in both production value and lyrical content. It's often compared to Madonna's "Confessions", but "Drama" is much more light-hearted and happier in comparisson with the dark, serious moments of "Confessions". Almost every track on "Drama" references dancing, nightlife, or unbridled love. The upbeat songs are so engrossing that I always skip over the 2 slower tracks, "Waterfall" and "Middle of Nowhere". They just seem a little out of place here. The two bonus tracks at the end(remixes of previous hits) are ok when you're in the mood for something a little heavier and more dance club/circuit party-ish. The fluffier sound from the rest of the songs on the CD isn't present on these final two.
Electronica Extravaganza!!
I'm so glad I did. What a surprisingly GOOD release for the 80s veterans! I bought this album purely because it was Bananarama. This is actually one of their best releases ever. It's consistent, catchy and keeps in line with the current trend of pop music (more down the dance/electronica venue).
Nearly all of the album is a highlight, but Lovebite, Hypnotic Tango, Move In My Direction, Rules of Attraction and Your Love Is Like A Drug really stand out. Another song, that is particularly strange, yet addictive is Waterfall. The overbearing synth work makes this a joy to listen to, just because it's so out there. . . it's really fresh!
My only complaint on this recording is that the songs lead the vocals instead of the vocals leading the songs. Listen to the older Bananarama material. Their singing leads, but this is not the case here. I know you have to give up a little bit with the electronica format, but it's a little bit of shame because the girls DO have good voices.
Bottom line: This is a no-brainer purchase! Get it today!.
Fun and creative dance album!
Don't Step in My Groove is the catchiest! Very close to 1978-79 disco on that number. Madonna needs to watch out for a second, because Bananarama could be the other '80s artist to recall their dance roots in a big way! I love Bananarama's new album, Drama! Move In My Direction is good, but the rest of the album outdoes it by many miles! This album is just loaded with catchy rhythms, dance grooves and other exciting twists within the 11 new songs! It steers more toward the electronica sound Madonna did on her 1998 and 2000 albums on some numbers. Runners up include Look on the Floor, Frequency, Feel for You, Your Love is Like a Drug and I Love the Way. I haven't heard the two remixes of 12 and 13 because I wanted to focus on the new songs. Smartly the now two-member group keep the songs to a 3 to 3 1/2 minute limit, with a few going back 4 minutes. But they pack as much into the songs to keep the listener entertained. The two slower songs, including the acoustic, tropical Middle of Nowhere, are nicely done. Their writing is just as interesting too. I didn't follow their '90s output as much after their '80s albums, but this is some of their best music in their 2 decades of recording. .
Pleased with Bananarama's newest album
I really like their new album, but would have liked to have seen a more exciting cover photo. As a fan since I was a teen back in the 80's I know Bananarama's music well. Also the only thing that could have made the album better of course would be Siobhan Fahey taking part, hopefully someday that happens would mean alot to all us fans. I really like the song Move In My Direction, very modern sound, very catchy. My favorite album of all by them still is Bananarama from 1984 that had great songs like The Wild Life, Hotline To Heaven, Cruel Summer, ect. But this new album does not dissapoint. . . . . now I want to see it hit the charts here in America and for them to get some the radio hits over here, they so deserve it. I really hated it when they tried to replace Siobhan with that one lady, glad she left, either have all 3 of them or just Keren and Sara, but don't try to throw in some imposter.
