70's Live Beach Boys Album ROCKS!!!!! I then downlaoded the album on a Sony computer and tweeked the recorded sounds but it was still off a 33 1/3. I have been listening to this album since 1974 on 33 1/3 RPM records (it was a double album). This disc is a gift from heaven if you like the Beach Boys and classic rock and roll sound. All the pre-70's hits are there and remixed to perfection. There is also more "live" sounds between songs then on the records. It could have used some bonus tracks but they did squeeze both albums on one CD. 5 Star rating , You won't be dissapointed.
where's brian
How can the BBs perform surfer girl and good vibrations without Brian? Your better off with the good timing(live in England) audio CD which features all 3 Wilson brothers and the original Beach Boys. This concert features a few good tracks, however Brian Wilson must have been lyin in bed when this concert was recorded. Most tracks on this album are dull and lack the usual good feeling beach boys vibe. I listened to it a few times when I first got it and probably wont listen to it again. .
great album
I still have it but it is about worn out. I bought the vinyl album back in 1974. It is probably the best live album I have ever bought. I bought the cd and it sounds great. I would suggest any beach boy fan to by this cd, it is well worth it.
1972-1973. A TRULY WONDERFUL LIVE BEACH BOYS RECORDING..................
Like other reviews have stated, if you own one Beach Boys Live recording let it be "The Beach Boys In Concert". A nice Capital reissue of "The Beach Boys In Concert, excellent linear notes, a nice sounding remastered edition. I'm not crazy about live concert recordings but "The Beach Boys In Concert" has some shining moments even without Brian Wilson present. Original Beach Boy members, Mike Luv, Alan Jardine, Carl and Dennis Wilson prove that even without Brian they have talent as live performers. Carl even performs some cuts from the famed "Carl And The Passions" lp. The Beach Boys were really at a very creative chapter in their careers. Brian Wilson did contribute to all Beach Boy releases during this era of their careers, he was still batteling inner demons as he did not tour with the band during this time in 1972-1973. This concert is the best Beach Boys live performance to own. My only negative was the version of "Help Me Rhonda". Otherwise this is a must own for Beach Boys fans. A truly enjoyable listen that actually kept my interest for a live recorded concert.
wot no Denny?
The unquestionable highlight of The Beach Boys during this period of their career was Dennis Wilson. . he wasn't stuck behind the drums, after injuring his hand, so co-fronted the group, and played electric piano/synth. I've heard a live recording of his song 'cuddle up', complete with strings AND a spoken word intro from Mike Love chastising the audience for talking over a quiet track and preventing them from artistic growth! Amazing stuff. . . which makes it all the more inexcplicable that there is NO vocal solo or song written by Denny here. . . not even as a bonus track.
It's a good album, don't get me wrong, just a total missed opportunity, given the key position Dennis occupied at this point in their career, both on record (best songwriter, hands down on their previous four lps) and live.
