remastered ????
Having listened to both CDs on headphones I came to the conclusion that the first 1987 release actually sounded a little bit better. This a review of the REMASTERED Past Masters. But the THE REMASTERED CD did sound a tad better on "day tripper. "

beatles masters
Great Buy! Not a significant change from '87 to today but still great packaging & detail.

Buy it - Paul needs the money....
You really don't need them anymore! If you grew up in the bad old days of music collecting like I did, music was on vinyl lp's. Now that I have your attention, let me tell you the TRUTH about most music reviews. They were sealed. The only way you could tell if they were good or bad was to buy them. If they were bad, you were out of luck. If they were good, then you would buy the next release from the same performers. The Beatles were a rare group - they NEVER disappointed anyone. . . that's how they built their reputation for being the best. Now, since we have the internet, we can hear almost every song on every record before buying. . . so if anyone doesn't like what they get, it's their own fault! This "Past Masters" cd is the best version in stereo that you can get at this time (although I still think the early beatles sounded best in mono). I don't think the sound engineers can do much more for these songs than they already have (Unless they can get George Martin & the other beatles back from the grave so they can re-record everything in a state of the art facility, but that's pretty unlikely!). By the way, Paul & co. always appreciates a new sale. . . he'll be happy, his pets will thank you, & so will Michael Jackson's family, ha,ha. . . . .

Absolutely essential
A lot of the monster beatle hits are only available here, making this a absolute must.

perfect sampling
It has Beatles tunes from 1962 to the end, and the improvement in the quality of the sound is astounding. I debated which remastered Beatles CDs I would purchase to replace the original - this is the perfect CD to purchase. Each of the stages of their unique sound, from early rock and roll to the groundbreaking sounds of the late 60s are greatly enhanced by the remastering. From this purchase I moved on to buy my favorites such as Sgt. Pepper and Revolver, and I have my birthday and Christmas gift suggestions set for the next two years. The Past Masters is a collection of singles not originally released on albums; the two CD set is 100 minutes of pure bliss.
