One of my favorite Beck
This one though stands out in that it is a little different from the rest. Of late Mr Beck has put out some really great music. It is more operatic. The soundtrack nature of this recording makes for small snippets of music, and this might be one of the reasons that it does not get old quickly.

I think something along these lines and equally good is the "Amused to Death" album by Roger Waters. Mr Beck supplied many stellar performances for that piece of work, and is probably the closest other work that would relate to this.

I highly recommend this record, as not only are the players at the top of their game, but the format is interesting. A great bonus is that there are no whiners (read singers) on this recording. Perfect. :).

Soundtrack yo an unseen Movie
It must be heard to truly get the effect they were trying to relay. This cd goes beyond the bounds of soundtracks. A MUST for Jeff's fans.

Excellent Instrumental Collaboration

If you're a fan of Jeff Beck's instrumental works, you'll probably love this disc. Actually, this is more like 4 stars, but I snuck in a bonus star because this disc put me in a good mood. Much of the music is etherial stuff that evokes a sense of space and combines a sort of new-age lax attitude with subtle tension. Elements of bands like Shadowfax, Dire Straits and even a touch of Pink Floyd linger here and there in the keys, but the guitar is pure Beck. The flow of the disc is excellent, as is the sound quality. All in all, a real sleeper.

Jeff Beck best kept secret
The music is very expressive and covers many styles, much enhanced, it goes without saying, with sizzling riffs from the master. This is Jeff Beck's best kept secret. A must-have for any serious Jeff Beck admirer.

Great Soundtrack
The movie was a made for cable feature that followed the life of Tim Page during his stay in the war. This soundtrack was from the movie, "Frankie's House" about photojournalists in the Viet Nam war. Errol Flynn's son, Sean also saw action in Nam behind a camera, and he is the supporting character in the film. I remember the movie being good, but it must have not received a large audience as the movie doesn't appear to have been release to the video market. While watching the movie, I thought that the sound track was pretty awesome, and it should be with Jeff Beck playing.

Many of the songs on this album are for background music for a seen in the movie, and although they may up the tension as you watch, listening without the visual cues is another story. Don't get me wrong, there are some great songs here. "Hi-Heel Sneakers" is a great tune with Beck and Jed Leiber on keys trading solos. It has a sort of country feel to it. The album opens with "The Jungle", which has some pretty amazing guitar work on it, especially in the opening stanza with steep bends and taps. "Cathouse" rocks out pretty good, and "Sniper Patrol" starts out soft and airy before exploding in a cacophony of sounds.

Overall, this album has a ting of Oriental sounding music to it that provides the feeling of being in the middle of the story. The music is good, and the effort by Beck and Leiber should be applauded. If you're fans of either, this is an album to add to your collection. It's a little different, but well worth it.
