Customer Review A Guitar Rock Classic Has Just Gotten a Whole Lot Better! The line up which includes Rod Stewart on vocals, Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones on bass and Aynsley Dunbar on drums also includes cameo appearances on various tracks by legends like Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin fame and Keith Moon of The Who has become a classic rock album that has stood the test of time. Jeff Beck's first solo album after leaving the Yardbirds is a must have among all aspiring rock guitarists' and indeed any self-respecting classic rock fans' cd library. Although the master tape has some minor limitations as is evidenced in parts of "Beck's Bolero", this cd has overall been very, very well remastered resulting in a very good sound quality. The mini-lp sleeve design isn't the best that I've seen as the cardboard is rather thin and the fit isn't great but I guess I've seen a lot worse. The lyrics are included in an insert which also has an essay written by Charles Shaar Murray in 2005 that makes for interesting reading as well. What I like most about this version of the album though is that it has the very, very difficult to find bonus tracks which are not on any of Jeff Beck's non-compilation albums. The best of these bonus tracks has to be "I've Been Drinking Again" which has a very beautiful Beck guitar solo in it with Rod Stewart doing very good vocals on it as well. Other than alternate versions of four of the album tracks, we also get another single "Tallyman", "Love is Blue" and "Hi-Ho Silver Lining" which was a minor hit single for Jeff who does vocals on the first and third tracks mentioned above. I personally owe a great deal to this album as when I started out learning how to play rock guitar all those years ago, it was Jeff Beck that I chose to be my role model and I learned many of his licks and solos and hence much of the material that is on this album as well as on his Yardbird and other future albums. I can say that if you are an aspiring rock guitarist, you can learn a great deal from the brilliant Jeff Beck. Just listen to the great solos he does on seminal tracks like "Shapes of Things to Come" and my favourite "Let Me Love You". Beck goes on to reach even greater heights on future albums such as "Blow By Blow" (a solo guitar masterclass) and "Wired" (another masterpiece of great guitar playing). Overall, this is the best version of "Truth" that is out there if you like the mini-lp sleeve replica design and especially for the great sound quality and the hard-to-find bonus tracks. Highly recommended!.
