Nothing new...
This is not an 'original' band, as has been suggested, but rather a band who produces ok music that is VERY reminiscent of early Kinks and, somewhat, The Velvet Underground. . and both of the ladder are far more interesting, dynamic and original. This CD is alright background music but it isn't compelling/inspiring enough to stand on its own. .

Yes, you need this album
When most bands put out collections of singles and b-sides, you get what you would expect from a collection of such; what you get here, however, is two discs (for the price of one) of songs that are as good as any that the band has released. This is the album that introduced me to B&S, so I may be somewhat biased, but I would put this two-disc set up against any of their other albums (all of which I now own and love). While most bands save their best songs for the full-length albums, B&S have put out a series of EPs containing some of their best material, and, thankfully, these EPs have been condensed into this muchvmore economical two disc set. This is an excellent starting point for anyone out there who is B&S-curious, as well as a must-own for fans.

Don't overlook this collection of great singles & b-sides
But if you're already a fan of Belle & Sebastian's music, you should already own this. I'll keep this pretty short and sweet. If you don't hit the little "add to cart" button right now. If you're new to them I would probably tell you to start with "If Your Feeling Sinister" & "The Boy with the Arab Strap", and purchase them together and listen to them back to back. By then you should A) have a great feel for the diversity of their sound and B) you should be in love with the band and craving more. Well, if that's the case. There's good news because there are plenty of other albums out there by them to get your hands on. If you really want to start at the beginning, get "Tigermilk" it's a great album that is arguably right up there with their best. And believe it or not, but that album was actually created as a senior project while they were still in college. Hope you enjoy them as much as my wife and I do.

Just in case you're wondering about this set in particular, it's fantastic from start to finish. In between the proper singles are many hidden gems that were only previously available as extra songs on EP's. It's great to have them all together in one tidy set, and not a bad price either. Enjoy! .

push barman to open old wounds
buy this. belle and sebastian are amazing, and this is probably the best 2 disc collection of songs you could ever hear. it will quickly become your favorite thing to listen to.

Great collection
It's the most listened to B&S record I own. This singles collection is done right and priced right. You see, I WORK for a living and the band's singles go for too much money. It's nice to get 'em all in one!.
