Thank you This is an excellent example of when a band leaves their label to do their own thing. I have had this cd for almost two years and it is still a strong player in my rotation. The results are, in this case, brilliant. I've been following this band for about 15 years now and they always ranked decent on my top list, but this is the disc that put them into the prime time.
A lifetime (retolled from the groggy Closer version) is that song you can't help but scream at the top of your lungs and go back to a place when you didn't have to pay a morgage and summers were full of friends and good tunes. Better than Ezra captures this emotion better then any other band. That youthful angst full of memories. It will almost bring tears to your eyes. Add to this such amazing tracks as "American Dream", "Hollow", "Daylight", "Burned", the heartwrenching "Our Last Night" and the highly dancable "Juicy" and you have a cd worthy of this review. Better than Ezra?. . . . Well definately the best of some and better than most.
Great stuff!
Kevin's lyrics are poetry and don't disappoint!. I'm a huge fan of BTE and this is the best album they have put out yet.
Great choice
Songs are catchy and easy to get into. I am a big fan of BTE, and this disk does not dissapoint.
BTE--The most amazing and under-rated band ever!
Each new album is creative and daring; the hooks never fail to give me goose bumps. I am so disappointed that more people do not know how wonderful this band is. The song writing and aranging is so powerful. I highly recommend this and all the BTE albums. I can't wait to see what the future holds for them.
Album of the Decade
If you ever had a broken heart. The Cure had "Disintegration", BTE has "Before the Robots" as their masterpiece. . . a crushing loss or a broken dream, then this is an album you can more likely relate to. But those songs are not presented in the gaudy, mope-y, whiney way like most bands on the radio are today. Instead, most of the songs have their own "rock-n-roll" groove and they will touch you and leave you with a sense of hope.
For most of the album, it's a lesson of what loss and longing in a song should sound like. The singing and lyrics are powerful. . . mainly because they are just honest and genuine. But at the same time, it's a modest album meant to instill an overall positive groove (sometimes with a funky beat!) It may seem like a catchy departure for some, but it is clever, heartfelt, and a fun album for those who can relate to it.
I rarely find an album where i will like every song on it (or even post a comment for). . . and this is why has my vote for Album of the Decade, I wish i could give it 10 stars. If you see the live shows, you would change your mind about some of the songs you think you would dislike.
