hardcore fans may disagree...
This cd is well worth the price but there aren't a lot of really memorable tracks. But I think the Crossing were one hit wonders.

A New Wave Classic
With the new wave revival coming around with bands like The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, and Modest Mouse, it's fun to go back to the 80's when it was the hottest thing around. Though Big Country like most of the new wave/synth pop movement of the 80's was a one hit wonder, it was quite an addicting hit. This album contains the 1983 hit from them "Big Country".

stay alive!
"music to move montains by". . thats all that needs to be said about big country. . . . this album is the reason i do what i do today (write songs and play guitar) when i first heard the crossing it was like nothing i had heard before. . . . it took me in,took me to places i had never been before. . . . here was a group who put there whole heart and soul into every note. . . . forget the pomp and pretense of duran and spandau. . . here are the real icons of the 80's! truly magnificent and moving. . . a sad loss to the world now that stuart is with us no more. . . . but at least his legacy will live on in his music. . . . and what better legacy to leave than an album like this!
stay alive!.

In my top 5 albums from the 80's/in my top 20 of all time:
Make sure you have this in your collection. If you would like to get a album/cd (I have both) from the 80's. The title track is a very good. But the radio stations missed out on not playing more from this album. I know they played Fields of Fire(I wish they played it more often) but this album offered much more. Just listen to songs like
"1000 stars" & Lost Patrol but. . . . then again just listen to the whole album. You won't go wrong in adding this to your collection. Trust me.

I Love this record.
My LP copy of it is as worn as my well loved copy of ee cummings's complete poems, or my Collected Works of TS Eliot. When I was 14, this was my favorite album. The spine is broken, the inner sleeve is torn and stained by brittle and ancient scotch tape. I knew every word, every note, every vocal inflection on this record, as if it were part of my own mind and heart. When I was a girl, this record taught me to love nothing better than the beauty of human expression, and to believe in the ability of human beings to fill their world and the worlds of others with hope. I put this record on, squeezed my eyes shut against the petty difficulties of my school-age life, and let my heart roam in uncharted landscapes where love, honor, unsung courage, truth, beauty, idealism and true unflinching romanticism held sway. This record made certain that for the rest of my life, nothing without that epic sweep would ever really satisfy me.

Stuart Adamson, the writer and singer of these beautiful songs has left us, sadly; sadly for him and sadly for us. I will always hold him in my heart with gratitude for the huge spirit of this music. I love this record.
