Big Country: The Crossing- Re-visited
the long wait for this puppy to arrive in my mailbox is over! and let me say the wait for this imported treat was well worth it. wow. digitally remastered plus 4 bonus tracks (including title track "The Crossing"). . . . the sound is beautiful, and the extra tracks are astounding. you will immediately notice a difference between this release and the original that was released so many moons ago.

"The Crossing" was simply the first step into a world of amazing music from this Scottish group. Soundscapes roll like the hillsides. . . images are conjured. . . and messages are delivered. Stuart Adamson brought together some of the finest musicians in modern music and what he and the others produced was truly magical. Big Country fans around the globe are still mourning the death of Stuart, but we will always have his heart and mind inside the notes of so many wonderful pieces of Big Country music. You owe it to yourself to pick up this re-mastered version of "The Crossing". . .

We'll miss you Stuart. . . .

Heart and Soul
As great as the original cd was ( I have it ), the remaster is made that much better with the edition of 4 terrific tracks from that period. Was it really 19 years ago that this album thundered across the airwaves? Yeah, it was. I'm really amazed that they were not album tracks as Heart and Soul, Angle Park, and The Crossing were staples of the early shows. All that is missing is Balcony. We all know it was Stuart's guitar playing that made this music jump out of the radio. But, I think the lyrics are just as good if not better. These lyrics would be great over the top of almost any music.

Stuart has left us now, but the echoes of this cd and so many memories for the fans will sustain their place in rock history, I hope. Though they will probably never be a Hall of Fame band, they joing other great bands with similar legacies such as Mott the Hoople, Free, ELO, and Thin Lizzy.


We'll Miss You Stuart !!!!
In 1983 you couldn't turn on your radio without hearing "In A Big Country" with those trademark bagpipe-like guitar riffs and Stuart's soaring vocals (and what a music video too by the way. Upon hearing the sad news of lead singer Stuart Adamson's death, I had to pop this CD in, and enjoy one of the best debut albums I've ever heard. . . ). In a time when synthesizers took center stage, Big Country rocked out with a unique take on pop music, and it worked. This album is solid from start to finish and so polished (thanks in part to the legendary Steve Lillywhite), you'd never think this was a debut album. Standout tracks include "In A Big Country," "Inwards," and "Fields of Fire. " Big Country's entire catalog is worth looking into and I played much of it through the mid 90's while I was still in radio. You'll never confuse these guys with anybody else from the 1980's and "The Crossing" is a great addition to any collection. We'll miss you Stuart.


Stuart Adamson... gone but not forgotten!
Say it ain't so!!

Whatever the reasons behind his death (apparently he had been battling many demons in recent years), Adamson may be gone, but he is not forgotten! Check out "The Crossing" CD and you wonder why Adamson sold himself short. Less than a month following my review (posted below), I heard today that Stuart Adamson, leadsinger and guitarist of Big Country, was found dead in a hotel room in Hawaii, at age 43. . . Peace to wherever you are, Stuart!.
