Great Album...crappy re-release ........ 180g ????
The Album is great one of the best if not the best Dio/Sabbath album BUT. . . . . I thought this was gonna be a 180g release my copy felt like an old 80' or 90's release was not nearly as heavy or thick as my other newly purchased 180g LP's. . . . I am happy with music the re-release was poorly managed and done.

Heavy
Fans are treated to a much heavier album, compared to the other two Dio Sabbath releases, HEAVEN AND HELL, and MOB RULES. DEHUMANIZER saw the return of Ronnie James Dio as the frontman of Black Sabbath, after a 10-year gap where he pursued his solo career. Geezer Butler deserves a lot of credit for making this album as heavy as it is, Dio for the darkness of it, and Tony Iommi for the great catchy riffs. Vinny Appice does a superb job as usual, too. What strikes me the most about this album is the limited success of it. Dio is a heavy metal icon, so what was the problem? Perhaps it's because fans of Dio-Sabbath didn't know that he was on this album? Those who weren't crazy about Tony Martin just assumed that he (Tony) was on this album? Whatever the case may be, it's a shame, because this album really rocks. Master of Insanity is the best track on the album, in my opinion, because of the catchy riffs, subject matter and vocals. Letters from Earth is my second favorite track, followed by the fast and heavy T. V. Crimes. These three songs alone are enough to buy the album, but the others are just plain great, as well!! (9. 5/10) .

no classic, just good rock

One thing I find very odd about Dehumanizer is how the songs feel completely out of order. I don't care what anyone says- the fact that Dio came back to Sabbath for this album DOES increase the quality of the songwriting, if only a little bit, at least it's better than many of those generic mid to late 80's albums Sabbath was pumping out. The opening song is STRANGE. Oh sure, it has an extremely heavy Sabbath riff, but it doesn't sound right when combined with Dio's vocals. I think Dio is off here with his legendary vocal style, despite the song being very enjoyable anyway.

Some other moments on the album resemble the Holy Diver days of Dio (you know, the classic years). Actually, while the album goes on, each song gradually shifts into a direction that more resembles Dio than anything Black Sabbath has done. I noticed by the final track the album felt more like a solo Dio album than a Sabbath album.

Also, I like this album more than the music Ozzy was creating around this time. Just throwing that out there :)

Honestly, I found myself enjoying most of the songs from this album. A few generic moments aside maybe, but nothing TOO overwhelming to be concerned about.

To sum it up- Dehumanizer is no classic Black Sabbath album, and I believe Mob Rules was the last classic album the band ever made, but it's still a pretty good album that Sabbath and Dio fans should try out to see if they like. I think they WILL like it. .

Review for the vinyl version
This is a prime example of how NOT to release a vinyl version of an album. Dehumanizer is easily a four star record but this is a review of the newly released vinyl version. This is absolutely terrible. No gatefold. No liner notes. No nothing. It's not even re-mastered! I got it on vinyl hoping that it would sound warmer but it still has the same stale, surgical sounding production as the original '92 version. I can't vouch for the re-mastered version of the CD but this is a very disappointing product coming from a label that prides themselves on giving vinyl the proper respect and treatment it's due. Rhino should hang their collective heads in shame, seriously. Conversely the recently released `H&H - The Devil You Know' vinyl version is incredible. Everything a collector yearns for and more. 180g vinyl. Gatefold. Poster! AND laser etching on side four! The only thing it was missing was a personally greeting from all the band members, lol. This is highly recommended.

Much better album than generally thought
Well, I'm glad I finally did. While I have owned the 1980 Heaven and Hell album for 5 or 6 years, I did not actually get Mob Rules and Dehumanizer until a few weeks ago. I like both albums very much. It seems that this album received more negative reviews than the earlier 2 Dio-lead Sabbath albums, but I don't understand why. Some of the negative reviews might be from fans who never heard the original Ozzy lineup and simply find this album too raw and nasty. In fact, I think Dehumanizer might actually be better than the other 2 albums because it packs more power and emotion. It's definitely the hardest of the 3 and is more like the original Ozzy incarnation of Black Sabbath. It's definitely very underrated.

I like all of the songs very much. Dio does sound more angry and bitter than he generally does, but that's OK. The rest of the band really rocks. Butler throws off some great bass lines and Iommi delivers great guitar solos. While the songs are all dark and intense, they have sufficient variety both within and between them to keep things interesting. I think After All (The Dead) and Letters from Earth are the most interesting songs on the album. Master of Insanity, Time Machine, I, and Buried Alive are all hard-driving rockers. Another reviewer made the astute observation that Dio sounds like Ozzy on Sins of the Father. This hadn't occurred to me, but it's very true.

So, if you love Black Sabbath and are not an Ozzy purist, then go get this album. You might be pleasantly surprised by how good it is.
