Not the best remaster out there!
K. I compared this rhino version of Mob Rules to my 1996 U. Castle remaster version and the Castle one sounds a little better because it's not over compressed and limited, to the point of sounding almost distorted. The bass sounds more natural, it seems to breathe a bit better than Rhino. The Rhino artwork and notes are incomplet compared to the Castle one.

IF YOU LISTEN TO FOOLS.....THE MOB RULES!
Although I am in the minority, I actually prefer Dio over Ozzy in Black Sabbath. The second album with Ronnie James Dio was yet another crushing album from the resurrected Black Sabbath! After 2 poor albums with Ozzy (Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die) Black Sabbath was brought back to life for the near perfect "Heaven & Hell" album in 1980. The way Dio sings OVER the music rather than along with the music (as Ozzy does) just makes Tony Iommi's riffs that much stronger and they stand out even more. I am also in the minority in saying that "Mob Rules" is better than "Heaven & Hell" from start to finish. When I first heard this album back in 1990, it quickly became one of my favorite albums of all time! The album starts off with the underrated fast track of "Turn Up the Night" which is one of the heaviest songs ever written. The song is on par with "Neon Night" as far as album openers are concerned. The song is full of bass from Geezer and heavy on the riffs. Next up is "Voodoo" which is a heavy mid paced song that is very catchy and Dio's vocals are very haunting. Great follow up as the second track. "Sign of the Southern Cross" is the albums centerpiece so to speak. This song is filled with dramatic twists and turns and is the longest track on the album and very heavy on the doom side. E5150 is ok as an intro but really is just a filler track. "Mob Rules" is up next and this of course is a fast heavy sing-a-long song. Simple but very catchy. "Country Girl" is a mid-paced track with a very memorable riff that gets stuck in your head easily. This has a great mid section that is soft and eerie before kicking into a great Iommi solo. "Slipping Away" sounds like it could have easily been on "Heaven & Hell" with a melodic chorus and Dio's singing is once again incredible on this track. "Falling Off the Edge of the World" is probably one of my favorite songs of all time. This song is very climatic like "Stairway to Heaven" as the song just builds and builds and explodes. Tony's solo is just amazing in this song and probably some of my favorite bass work. Just an incredible and huge song. The album closes with the weakest song titled "Over and Over" which is a slow paced song. I think they should have had this album end with "Falling off the Edge. . . " but still a solid Sabbath song. If you have any doubts about this album, just pick it up and give it a spin. I cannot see how anyone would be let down by this masterpiece!.

I love this album
You're music collection will thank you and will no longer weep late at night wondering why you don't like it and won't buy Mob Rules. Buy this album.

Heavy Metal (noun) 1. Black Sabbath: The Mob Rules
I consider this album among the two or three albums that define the genre called Heavy Metal. . the crowning achievements and purest expressions of the form. The other couple being Iron Maiden's self-titled first album and Judas Priest's Unleashed in the East.

Yes, there are many great "hard rock" albums and many great speed/thrash metal albums, etc. But I'm talking about Heavy Metal. .

The Mob Rules is worth listening to over and over, as I have. Hundreds of times. It has it all. . . I don't even want to try and describe it. Just get it.

It's not the best Sabbath Album, but it's one-of-a-kind in it's rawness and straight ahead headbangability (is that a word?) . . . . this is no blues album, and it's no rock album. . . it's a metal album. . .

And it's one of the best HEAVY METAL albums in existence.

Timeless. Classic. Magnificent.

Thanks guys!!! Truly. .

Near perfection again
But as things go, two egos can't always succeed. I was a huge fan of Ronnie James Dio along with Ritchie Blackmore back in Rainbow. Somehow, however, Dio and Iommi are still willing to give it a go. Next to Heaven & Hell, Mob Rules is my favorite album in this genre. Again. . . powerful and exciting. . . just what metal was meant to be. If you are looking for the text-book definition of classic metal. . . you can't go wrong with Dio and Iommi. . . Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules.
