Excellent "Modern Day" Blondie!!!! An Excellent CD!!!! It contains 14 great songs. There have already been plenty of reviews on this one, so I'll just mention a few things. I really liked the first one "Shakedown", Debbie really gets into this one!!! Other songs I liked include: "Good Boys", "Undone", "Background Melody", "Majic", "End to End", and "Hello Joe". Basically, I liked all the songs, it's great from beginning to end.
Some of these songs are featured on the Blondie "Live by Request" DVD. These songs are "Good Boys", "Undone", "End to End", and "Hello Joe".
Overall, this is a great CD containing 14 great songs, and I highly recommend it. Thanks!!!.
Surprise! It's good
Listening to the first track I was horrified, and even thought I might have the wrong CD. I didn't expect much, but I bought this album out of sheer nostalgia. But then it takes off and. . . what fun! Blondie is back.
WOW!
Sporting cool, heavy guitar sounds under the plethora of hooks, this record has the rock/disco hybrid we expect from Blondie, but without the slightest retro feel. Sonically stunning, danceable, and surprisingly modern sounding, "The Curse of Blondie" is anything but an exercise in futility from an oldies act. Even Deborah Harry's vocals are revamped with new harmonies, and surprisingly tough hot chick lyrics. This is their strongest effort since "Eat to the Beat", and it blows the doors off of the comeback album "No Exit". Highly recommended.
Nice surprise
But I had not figured they would be doing anything really noteworthy.
I was vaguely aware that one of my favorite bands from the seventies, Blondie, was playing again.
Fortunately I took a chance and bought a couple of their new CDs, and it turns out that The Curse of Blondie is really good. It contains several tracks which one may consider amongst their best ever. For example Background Melody, Magic, and Rules for Living, just wonderful songs.
I warmly recommend this album, and I think it's awesome that people who have been in the music business for thirty years can rise up and create something this fresh and strong.
Been a long time since a record or CD has sticked with me this long...
At first, it sounded a little too 'electronic' for my taste. I first listened to this CD as an import from Australia, 2003, I think. But after a few listens, it steadily grew on me. Around 2005, finally got an 'ipod' and I was a delivery guy at the time. I think I must have listened to the album (cept the last track) nearly every single day in my truck.
I was crazy about "Goldenrod," "The Tingler" and "Last one in the World. " I saw Blondie on tour for this record and they did most of the songs on it. As usual, seeing a band perform songs live (if they sound good, live) makes me want to listen to the songs even more.
Not since "Eat to the Beat" have I consistently listened to a Blondie record so much! The only songs I am not crazy about are "Magic" and "Songs of love. " Also, the record would be EVEN BETTER if some of the songs were trimmed down a bit; they seem somewhat repetitive and drawn-out. A production thing I guess.
I read a couple of reviews, and "Shakedown" gets alot of jabs. I think it's great. In "Rapture," Debbie rapped about a man from mars and eating cars. So why is rapping about a convict romance and Jersey so bad? I think it's pure genius.
Out of the all the Blondie records, the only ones I really don't listen to much are "Autoamerican" and "No Exit. " They have many great songs, but are hard to digest, all together on one listen.
5 years later, I still play this CD quite a lot. It still amazes me that stuff like "Goldenrod" wasn't a huge hit. It was the most played song from "the Curse" on the radio, here in Chicago.
