Timeless enjoyment. I have had the CD for twelve years now--bought in 1997 while serving as a federal employed social worker working for the Army in Augsburg, Germany. This is by far my favorite BON JOVI tape. I have been purchasing music in one form or other since 1966. Few have stood the test of time but quite honestly DESTINATION ANYWHERE never seems to get old. My husband is one who tends to not like songs unless he understands the words. Well the words on this tape are not only easily understandable but I find myself singing to them over and over again whether the tape is playing or not. I especially love MIDNIGHT IN CHELSEA, STARING AT YOUR WINDOW WITH A SUITCASE IN MY HAND, EVERY WORD HAS A PIECE OF MY HEART, IT'S JUST ME AND LEANING HOW TO FALL. I remember the advent of "soft rock" back in the 1970s. It was not appropriate for those of us who worked in offices at that time to listen to hard rock or head banger music. The music in DESTINATION ANYWHERE is totally appropriate however. I find it kind of mystical sometimes, mysterious and seductive. It is not surprising then that it remains one of my favorite tapes after all these years.
Poetic, Brilliant!!!
I've been listening to it all day on my iPod. I've had this CD for a while and just never gave it the attention it deserves. It's an amazing creation! Pure Jon; pure poetry; full of the kind of fine sensibility that informs all of his best work! I want more of this. Jon, it's time to make another one like this one!.
Simple Review
5 stars. Count this as 2. Highlights: Every Word Was A Piece Of My Heart, Destination Anywhere, August 7, 4:15. Lowlights: Queen Of New Orleans, It's Just Me. Jon Bon Jovi experimenting and going for a pop sound. While I can appreciate the album and what he's trying accomplish unfortunately it seems like it came out when his voice was at it's weakest - I don't know why. He just doesn't sound anywhere near as good as "These Days" and didn't fully regain it until "Bounce".
Eh
It's an Ok CD, nothing to write home about. I like him best with the rest of Bon Jovi and his collaborations with Richie Sambora.
Just Jon
BUT, it is still Jon. This album is very different from his usual Bon Jovi style. I love to hear him sing no matter what. His voice is absolutely beautiful.
He has always had a message in his songs. This one was written for someone he loves, I think.
Worth the trip.
