The second major collection of Pat's Dot recordings
This set of CDs is very good. I am a Pat Boone fan. It includes his studio recordings from 1960 to 1962 except for two songs from 1959. The first major collection of Pat's Dot recordings is THE FIFTIES and it encompassed him at his peak. THE SIXTIES, on the other hand, is for the lasting Boone fan like me. It includes all his second tier career at Dot. Hit songs, notably "Moody River" and "Speedy Gonzales", which were big hits, are featured alongside minor hits, film songs, and album collections. My four star rating is due to two factors. First, there are some multiple takes of the same songs. Do we need them all? Second, his albums of sacred songs of the period are excluded. This is a real pity. Such sacred songs were included in THE FIFTIES set and they enhanced the listener's appreciation of the range of Pat's recordings for Dot. The accompanying book is a treat. Overall, thanks to Bear Family Records for the worthy release of THE SIXTIES after their excellent production of THE FIFTIES. .

Pat's Greatest Vocal Performance of All Time: 'ANASTASIA.' Why Is It Missing?
If this is an oversight, it's a LULU!!!!!!! A HUGE disappointment for me. Drat! My all-time Pat Boone favorite is 'Anastasia,' and it's the ONLY track missing from this entire boxed set! I can't believe that anyone could omit Pat's VERY BEST vocal performance EVER!!!! This set is INCOMPLETE.

the resurgence
his l. pat boones career was beginning to flounder by the end of 1959 there wasnt a top ten hit since if dreams came true in the summer of 1958. ps still sold in the top 100 but it was to june 1961 that pats career was rekindled by a single moody river that shot to #1. after a few so so hits johnny will, pictures in the fire pat struck again with a top ten hit in the summer of 1962 entitled speedy gonzales which peaked in the top 5 nationally, that was to be his final top ten hit. in 1964 pat cut beach girl this number deserved a better fate but only grazed the bottom of the top 100 in july 1964. his career with randy woods dot label came to an end in 1966 with a patriotic pro-vietnam record in 1969 he scored with july your a woman for tetregrammaton records then turned to gospel music. in 1997 he cut an lp called no more mr nice guy and since then has cut a country album he has had a very successful career and this boxed set continues with his work in the early sixties.
