Bowie Does Covers
The selection includes a variety of English pop songs that are very familiar. This Bowie disk is comprised of all covers that influenced David growing up. This is the last disk by the Spiders From Mars, Bowie's flagship group. The track list begins with "Rosalyn", originally sung by The Pretty Things, which Bowie performs with fervor. "Here Comes the Night" is the classic Them tune, a Van Morrison favorite, faithfully true to the original version. "See Emily Play" is a Sid Barrett composition that was one of the first Pink Floyd hits, and shows Bowie's passion for the eccentric guitarist. "Everything's Alright" is a tune originally released by the Mojos. "I Can't Explain" is a slowed down take on the Who classic single. The version of the Easybeat's "Friday On My Mind" is one of the better releases on this disk, very true to the original hit. "Don't Bring Me Down" is another Pretty Things cover, who were obviously one of the more influential groups on Bowie. "Shapes Of Things" is another good version of the Yardbirds single, followed by the second Who song, "Anyway Anyhow Anywhere". "Where Have All the Good Times Gone" is another Kinks early standard. There are a few different tunes included on the re-release, including a powerful version of the Springsteen single, "Growing Up", an unusual choice as an addition to this English pop based release. The versions are interesting, with strong playing. I like this. .


Pin Ups
I guess I just like his original material. A few good songs but was never one of my favorites. I remember when this first came out and being dissappointed that it was an album of covers instead of original material. .


'Money-maker'-
Cover albums are not only tacky, but unexpressive, mostly effortless ways for a musician to cash in on songs that as far as I'm concerned aren't theirs to perform or record (live is one thing, this is completely different). is all that comes to mind with this album. I can understand an artist who plays, say, heavy industrial music performing pop songs, because it's a unique take, but this album is a rock artist playing other people's rock songs, umm, wow?

Don't get me wrong, Bowie is one of my all-time favorites, I practically worship him, but during the time that this was made Bowie seemed to be in a rush to continue Ziggy's success instead of making great music, though I do love Alladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs and Hunky Dory, but honestly I don't care for Ziggy Stardust very much minus a few very great moments.

I do like a couple of cuts on this album, but, like other reviews have stated, it is disappointing not to hear 'Port Of Amsterdam' on here.


Great album
Bowie decided to cover some of his favorites tunes. This is a great album. I still can remember the day I arrived home with the vinyl version, back in the early 70's and the impression I got when I played it the fist time. It was raw rock 'n roll played 20 years in the future! Today, more than 30 later, it still sounds great and revolucionary! Is one of the best records of the era and one of Bowie classics!.


David Bowie Pinups.
That is what I wanted. The marketing surrounding this item led me to believe (whether my mistake or not) that this CD contained the single "Port of Amsterdam". That song was not on the CD and the CD contents were unappealing to me to the point that after listening to it once completely I have not had any inclination to play it again. I later purchased the CD David Bowie at the Beeb which contained the desired song and I am pleased with it and play it often.
