The Heat I found some of the comments in reviews curious especially those who expressed concern that Toni was staying in the ballad lane and not really straying too far from those types of songs. Admittedly I bought this album on auto-pilot years ago and never listened to it in entirety until recently which is a shame because it's excellent. I'm divided about this issue with certain singers because primarily I have an 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' mentality towards singers who simply perform better in certain genres of music. I think that overall, Toni's hit ballads and mid-tempo singles are all so distinct that they set her apart from other vocalist both within her era and those who've come after her.
My favorite tracks are:
HE WASN'T MAN ENOUGH - great lead-off single, one of those songs that I never want to end while I'm listening to it
GIMME SOME - catchy, upbeat track with a guest rap by the late Left-Eye
THE HEAT - melodic track
FAIRY TALE - Toni's voice sounds gorgeous on this beautiful track
SPEAKING IN TONGUES - great display of her vocals
JUST BE A MAN ABOUT IT - love the fact that Dr. Dre does not rap on the track but speaks conversationally
SPANISH GUITAR - had to grow on my but this is a really pretty ballad
NEVER JUST FOR A RING
One song of note is MAYBE - I really didn't like her singing style on this one, it reminds me of Beyonce's quick singing style on early Destiny's Child tracks and doesn't suit Toni at all
Again this album is really well-produced, with great song placement - there are not back-to-back ballads or slower tempo songs which could lull a listener into boredom. After listening to all of her albums recently, this is one where she really seems to have hit her stride and seems comfortable singing both uptempo and ballad types of songs. .
Loved this CD
She has such a sultry sexy voice sets the tone from the beginning. I am not a huge fan of Toni Braxton but I purchased this some time ago for "Speaking in Tongues" and it has been one of my favorite slow jams CD's for a while now.
There are a few up beat songs on this as well and I think it was made popular from the single "Just be a Man about it" as well as "He wasn't man enough for me" but it's a all around good CD.
Respectfully Reviewed
.
NOT AS STRONG AS HER PREVIOUS RELEASES, BUT TONI PROVES SHE DO (AND WILL) HAVE STAYING POWER!
Other strong tracks: "Spanish Guitar", "Just Be A Man About It". Leading this project is the Hit Single: "He Wasn't Man Enough". Although this project is more Contemporary than her previous project (Maybe she's just tryin' to keep up with the times). It would be nice for her go back to basics (Maybe even a project with The London Symphony). This project just proves that she can even keep up the younger generation. .
Hot like Fire? Look ahead to check it...

Nice
If you are in to relaxing or slow music, this is good. This album is great. There are a few song that are fast, like Gimme Some ft. Left eye. This song is like a fast song surrounded by slow ones, but if you haven't had this album added to your cart, you need to pick it up.
