terry h since goin solo ian brown hasn't put a foot wrong. absolutely brilliant.
he has got better & better with every album. he is no longer with the roses. people should judge him on his solo career, not hark back to the good old days of the roses. cheers.
Best Electronic Record Ever
THIS RECORD IS GREAT FOR THIS FEW BUT IMPORTANT REASONS:
1) IAN BROWN IS A GENIUS
2) BENEATH THE ELECTRONIC, SPACE-LIKE SONGS THERE ARE GREAT DIRECT, POP SONGS THAT YOU WILL REMEMBER FROM THE VERY FIRST TIME YOU HEAR THEM (AND YOU KNOW YOU'RE NOT GONNA FALL ASLEEP LIKE WHEN YOU HEAR AMNESIAC OR THE LATE RADIOHEAD)
3) ALL SONGS ARE GOOD, EVEN THE ONE WHERE HE SINGS IN SPANISH. .
ENOUGH SAIS: 5 STARS OUT OF 5. .
Really quite great
Brown has done in his solo career. This album is really very solid, easily the best thing Mr. The songs have a "loose" feel to them, yet they are well-structured and very tight. Recommended.
one of the best
Ian gets it right and most of us can't even see beyond our noses to the possibilities that exist out there. I have owned and listened to this album on vinyl repeatedly for the past year and I am always inspired by the connection of Brown's lyrics, music and production values to quantum physics and recent new perceptions of reality. Brilliant, this music keeps getting better and better with each listening. One of my favorite pop albums of all time and I was born in the fifties so I know a thing or two about pop. Definitely a desert island disc. And his musician friends are to be equally commended. .
King Monkey struggles to avoid becoming a Frog Prince
So read the liner notes and apparently it is so this Brian Eno ripoff can be returned to the store for a refund with minimal inconveince. CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE SHOES WHILST LISTENING. While its starts off with a string session on F. E. A. R. it soon lapses into a predictable morass of Dave Mckrapen keyboard synthesizer, drum machines and mixer sounds that barely pass for music to any brain not seriously damaged by years of E use. When Mr. Brown starts wailing spanish on El Mundo Pequeno, its the lone average tune remaining that proves maybe he has a future in Mexico entertaining on Univision(look out Don Fernando!). That aside, the rest of the album is gettin high crowd trash that makes you seriously yearn for his uniquely average work on UMB. Others will make excuses for Mr. Brown and keep saying its a "new direction" well its the wrong one as he has proven on the last 2. 5 albums.
While I totally agree the Stone Roses never will, with each new album Mr. Brown is showing us he never was thus all he has to offer now are "collections" of other people's work. . . Clearly at this point the whole was greater than the parts.
