a desert island classic Stills & Young were burning with creativity, and Richie Furay smooths the rough edges with his sweet southern voice. This is one of the great rock albums of its generation. The instrumentation and production is dense enough to stand up to decades worth of listening. There are a plenty of classics on this one album - Mr. Soul, Expecting to Fly, Bluebird, Rock and Roll Woman - all with beautifully woven guitar tracks and shimmering harmonies. .
Sensational...
This album is sensational. I hadn't heard this album (excluding Mr Soul). I loved it. What a pity these guys never stuck it out. Impetuous youth. . . lol.
This band was the epitome of tight playing. Their ability to put music together at that particular time, I believe, was only matched by The Band.
This album is definitely better the more you listen to it.
Highly recommended.
early signs of things to come
With the dark and broding "broken arrow","kind woman",etc. this was only the beginning of good things to come from what would become three of the classic bands that are still with us or have splintered into music and musicians that are with us to this day, csny, poco, loggins and messina, richie furay band, flying burrito brothers, etc oh! lest we forget soloists neil young, stephen stills. Just listen to some of the dueling lead guitars of afor mentioned young andstills and you can see why these guys are stills around, ha ,ha adios.
Buffalo Sspringfield Again
And, if opinion be known, it is better now than it was then, circa 1968. This, as I recall, was the second recordibg by the Buffalo Springfield, as one could surmise from it's title. When compared to the schlock and crappola yhat gets passed off these days, it can make me long for the daya, and music, of my youth. If you're interested in something that posseses a modicum of originality and creativity, I'd recommend it. Plesse be advised this is about 40 years old,but it hasn't deterieriated with age. Thumbs uo.
Their Best album
In my mind their first album had "For what it's worth and that was about it. The first album by Buffalo Springfield show a very young and "Green" Buffalo Springfield.
Buffalo Springfield again, in my mind shows Stills and Young at their peak with Buffalo Springfield.
Mr. Soul is the best rocker Neil Young did with Buffalo Springfield and remains a classic to this day.
Broken Arrow, Expecting to fly and Broken Arrow are also worthy accomplishments.
Stephen Stills adds Bluebird which is probably my favorite Buffalo Springfield song ever.
The one problem with this album is the time period that it came out it.
When you listen to the psychadelic sounds and things they have in their music it dates itself.
If you have to get a Buffalo Springfield album, either this or their greatest hits would be the place to start.
