At the peak of his powers
From the sweetness of the opening track, "Love Buys Love" to the uptempo shouting of Burke's own "Got to Get Myself Some Money" to the wistfully hopeful (and brilliant) cover of Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come," this album is a triumph. This 1986 album -- on the Rounder label, which picked up other greats who were dropped by major labels -- shows one of the great soul singers of all time in prime form. It grows on you, and then grows some more. Soul at its best.
