DO NOT BUY THISThis is abother re-release of Sidewalks Fences & Walls, produced by Swamp Dog. . don't buy it- Solomon Burke was never paid for this recording and will NEVER perform any of the songs on it.
Not up to his high standards--and beware, tracks are wrong
The 9 tracks on the CD called "king of rock 'n' soul" released by Black Top are:
1) Good Rockin' Tonight
2) My Babe
3) Lonesome Highway
4) Letter From My Darling
5) Street Walkin' Woman
6) Everybody Needs Somebody To Love
7) If You Need Me/Tonight's The Night/I Almost Lost My Mind
8) Down In The Valley
9) Got To Get You Off My Mind
The tracks listed here are apparently on a CD called Sidewalks, Fences, and Walls, but I don't have it so cannot say for sure. The tracks listed here (and on other web sites) are wrong.
As to this one. . . . when a star starts to believe in himself too much, he thinks he can say or do anything. Maybe live (which the last few tracks are) it worked, but listening to this I get a feeling of a tremendously self-indulgent man who forgot how he got successful. The toying sex-talk is irritating, the arrangements, while very good, are too long, and the stage banter is silly.
However, when Solomon is on top, there's no one nearby. My Babe will make you forget any other versions of it you've heard. . . his sultry voice is made for a song like this. And while I don't love Letter From My Darling, it works pretty well. There is a lot of good material in here, just too little excellent and too much padding. Tighten it up!.
Old but good
I started to collect old R&B this year, and thought about that song. I heard Letter To My Darling several years ago, but didn't know who Solomon Burke was. It took me a while to find it, but Amazon is so great in finding even obscure songs. In the meantime, I also like My Babe. This is a fun CD.
