Glen Campbell at his finest But that's exactly where I would rank this album: at the top. Glen Campbell has produced a rather large number of albums in his long career, so it would take a pretty bold claim to say this is one of, if not THE best album he has. Campbell was at the top of his game at this concert, and the energy and quality of his voice come through on this recording. No, it doesn't have some of his biggest hits, like Wichita Lineman, Galveston, or Southern Nights, but the sheer power and range of his voice more than makes up for it. And that's not to say the playlist is lacking; far from it, it features favorites such as By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Gentle On My Mind, and Where's The Playground Susie. On top of that, it also has Didn't We and If You Go Away, which he performs magnificently.
I could sit here and type another three or four paragraphs telling you just how great this album is. But what you really want to know is whether or not to buy it. I'll put it simply: if you're a Glen Campbell fan, you want this album. If you're curious or just getting into GC and want a good album to start with, you want this album.
You understand why he became a legend
Several songs are worth the price of the album alone. It`s hard to believe that a little over 39 years ago, this album was recorded "Live". "Didn`t We?" still inspires awe,and remains one of the best arrangements and performances of Campbell`s career.
"The Impossible Dream" has been recorded so often by so many that Campbell`s superb version can get overlooked, but should be listened to just to appreciate great music being performed by a great artist.
Campbell`s version of Jimmie Rodgers "It`s Over" is another gem of a performance.
To close the show (and the album), Campbell chose "The Lord`s Prayer". This version is one of the most powerful collaborations of a great artist, pouring his heart and soul into a masterful arrangement, with an orchestoral backing perfectly suited to the material, the music, and the man. It has to be heard to be appreciated.
It was breathtaking the first time I heard it,and remains so today.
Guitar Players Take Note
that most guitar players will love whether you play folk, country, or jazz. This old LP has some great guitar intros, runs etc. Folk lovers will probaby enjoy Glen's version of "Walk Right In" and jazz lovers might enjoy the guitar notes in Glen's cover of "For Once In My Life", the old Stevie Wonder song. Also, there are a couple of old banjo tunes as well. And, of course, it doesn't hurt that this LP has lush orchestral arrangements from the Garden State Orchestra.

Glen Campbell at his best
Any Glen Campbell fan will love this album! The track listing is great although I would have loved it if would have included "Wichita Lineman" and the title song from his movie "True Grit" which was a Oscar nominated song and came out the same year as this concert. I was so excited when I saw that this great double live album had been remastered and was available on CD. Glen's band along with the 1969 Garden Arts Center Orchestra is in top form as is Glen's voice. Very happy I made this purchase. You will be too!.
Still a fan...
The major down-side to 8-tracks was that they usually changed tracks right in the middle of the song! Boy was that annoying!
Last night something got me thinking about Rod McKuen's "If You Go Away" and I remembered it was on this Glen Campbell album. I remember convincing my dad to buy album this in late 1969 when he got our first 8-track stereo. When I checked Amazon, and saw that it is now in CD, I ordered it right away.
Aside from that song (which alone is worth the price) I also remember just how fun the opening medley of "More" and "Somewhere" happens to be. To end the album with the one of the most beautiful renditions of "The Lord's Prayer" was probably unheard of, but certainly a great decision.
Buy this album - you will llove it.
