Meet Glenn Campbell Well worth buying the whole cd or mp3 upload. A very good update for an amazing career.
one of my favorites. Used to watch his TV show as a kid and even saw him at the fair a decade ago.
He still can really bring it to the country/pop scene.
Beautiful Music
Whether as a young soldier on the ground in Vietnam, a struggling loner in it's aftermath, an aspiring DJ or, as now, someone contemplating his own retirement and mortality, Glen Campbell's voice at the lyrics and melodies of masters has been a plaintive, soulful, pleading, forgiving and soothing balm for this listener for over 45 years. His voice has been a background to my life. I have my loud and ragged times, my need for new, powerful and confrontational rock and indie. But at those moments I feel the too rapid race toward obsolescence of styles, attitudes and riffs that only last month were critic's do-no-wrong artists, and a society so self indulgent and inured to softness of expression, I take some refuge in the music of Mr. Campbell: For some sense of comfort, reassurance; a perception and attitude that, as difficult as living can be, ones spirit can be saved by the core of one's beliefs, hopes, faith and fears. I find this album, and Mr. Campbell's interpretations of the songs in it to be masterful and dignified. True to his roots, It should be said. I, for one, am grateful for the return of his voice and the melody. Bravo.
Campbell's best record since his heyday at Capitol Records
g. As Johnny Cash did in his late-life American albums, Glen Campbell in this album records songs by singer-songwriters (e. , Lou Reed, John Lennon) that one would not normally associate with his "type" of music and singing. The result is pure magic. Campbell's voice still possesses that special poignant quality that lifted "Wichita Lineman" and "Galveston" to the pantheon of pop/country music. I defy anyone to listen to his cover of Lennon's "Grow Old with Me" and not be touched. How wonderful to see him not rest on his laurels and come through some difficult years with this album.
GLEN CAMPBELL REDEFINED !!
i am 52 and have followed Glenn all along and love him but talk about COMEBACK. ok bottom line to make this simple . . there are some albums out there that earn "GREATEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME" status. . well this is one !!!.
The return of a childhood musical hero
Glenn Campbell also had a hold of me with his matinee idol looks and terrific country pop. I have to say I had a strange childhood, with jazz, rock and country in the house. Today I heard three songs from this album and have ordered it immediately. I know Glenn has never gone away and has been a fixture in recent years with many appearances. This album however brings Glenn's sound into contemporary music with terrific effect. It is a very pure country voice and his register has never sounded better and capable of vocal highs no man of his vintage should be able to reach. I hope someone who knows Glenn tells him of these great reviews and just let him know from an Aussie bloke (bloke is a "Guy")of 49, that this album has brought a few tears to my eyes, not from sentimentality or nostalgia, but from the joy of hearing Glenn in such great form. Congratulations to all those who participated in this project and I hope we see you in Australia again Glenn.
