Not as good as her other albums.
D. I only like the first two songs on this C. I am a Belinda Carlisle fan and really like her first three albums: Belinda, Heaven on Earth, and Runaway Horses, but as the other reviews say, this one is different.


There is only one way to listen to this CD
com. Alright, you just bought A Woman and A Man from amazon. Great, now here is what you do: program your CD player to only the odd tracks and prepare yourself for a great listening experience.

Yes, there are really only 6 good songs on this album of 11 songs, and they are all the odd numbered songs.

Track one, In Too Deep, is probably the best song on the album. Classic Belinda, sounds like a hybrid of her songs from her Real and Live Your Life Be Free albums. The rhythm to this song is infectious. Throughout all of Belinda's albums, I love how her voice quivers when she hits her notes. Her voice hits all those notes on In Too Deep. She really can turn a simple sylabble into something memorable.

A Woman & A Man is a pretty good song. I guess my only complaint with the song is the line "Could it be you, yes it was you, a woman and a man. " Sadly that's during the chorus so it occurs a lot. Otherwise the choppy and distorted guitars and thoughtful lyrics make this a memorable song.

Listen to Love is a decent song. Not too catchy musically except when a cool drumline arrives when Belinda sings "Come on now" repeatedly a couple times during the song. The chorus is pretty good. Yeah, a decent song.

Love Doesn't Live Here probably is In Too Deep's biggest rival for best song of the album. I absolutely love the guitars on this song but the song shines on some of the best lyrics she's ever sung. The ending to the song is simply phenomenal. There is an immense sense of sadness during the last part of the song. Wow. This could bring a tear to your eye.

Kneel At Your Feet is a quirky song because the chorus could have a lot of different meanings. I think I heard one person say it was religious but couldn't it easily be sexual as well? It's a good track because Belinda's voice is simply phenomenal during the chorus and there is some entertaining funky music. Probably the worst of the odd numbered songs but this song is still way better than any even numbered song on the album.

My Heart Goes Out To You ends the album nicely. A depressing song but with a tender touch from Belinda.

A Woman & A Man isn't Belinda's worst solo album. That honor would go to her self-titled album where she only has 4, maybe 5 good songs and even then none of those songs can rival In Too Deep and Love Doesn't Live Here. In the end, this should be one of the last Belinda albums you pick up and when you do pick it up, don't pay full price, as half the tracks(the even ones) truly are horrid.


Romantic album with insecure flourishes
It strains a little in it's balladry(I didn't care for "Remember September", which tries too hard to echo "Circle in the Sand" from years passed), but "In Too Deep" is an almost-perfect pop confection, and "Always Breaking My Heart" has some very clever lyrics and a memorably up beat. Amidst the pomp and circumstance of lost love, found love, forgotten love, and future love, Belinda mixes in some interesting, neurotic nuances of self-doubt and insecurity("A Woman and A Man"), religious imagery("Kneel at Your Feet", "Love Walks In"-import version only)and pithy sarcasm("California"). A nice addition to Carlisle's solo canon. B+.


Belinda's most recent album---a great album!
This album is pure Belinda, and the songs are great!!

A Good buy!. If I could pick one song off this cd to listen to, it would have to be #6, "Always Breaking My Heart" The single wasn't released here in the US but was a Top 40 hit in the Uk.


Carlisle magic again - but to a lesser extent.
' While some of the songs on this album are classic Carlisle magic, such as 'California,' 'Listen to Love,' 'Love in the Key of C' and the slow, thoughftul message to a friend, 'My Heart Goes Out To You,' others, though still great, just don't seem to fit the Carlisle puzzle - 'He Goes On,' and 'Kneel At Your Feet' being the most notable. Belinda's most mature and adult album to date, A Woman and a Man sports two top-ten single hits, the gorgeous and immensely catchy 'In Too Deep,' and the Per Gessle co-written 'Always Breaking My Heart. A great album that felt like a return to the 'good ol' days' after the commercial flop that was 'Real. '.
