We Were All Rooting For You!! How Dare You?!
Especially because Miss Carlisle has history as being in one of best all-girl pop/rock bands of all time. I rated this album only two stars because I expected more from Belinda Carlisle, This album could be passable for some "no name artist" but not for the Go-Go's frontwoman, "A Woman & A Man" as a whole is completely unacceptable. "Always Breaking My Heart" "In Too Deep" "California" and "He Goes On" are the only songs from this "A Man & A Woman" that are well put togteher. Everything else is bland, drab and flat. What takes from what couldv'e been a much better album is how short it is. Perhaps If there were more to choose from there's a possibility "A Man & A Woman" could get a higher rating. This album seems weak and incomplete, One less song and this would qualify as an EP, how sad?. She shouldv'e worked with a better production team for this release, there's no reason why she couldn't have. Whoever the writers were for "In Too Deep" "California" & "He Goes On" shouldv'e been more involved in the writing sessions, those are three really amazing pop songs. Belinda should've worked with some of the same producers Madonna worked with in the 90's, I say this because "California" reminds me alot of "My Baby's Got A Secret" and she sounds hot on that track. Also alot songs in Belinda's catalogue were identical to Madonna's sound and they served well. Even if Belinda wanted to do something more conservative there were still people she still couldv'e worked with to help her with that. There's no good acoustics, Perhaps some warm guitar acoustics?. What's done is done and the "A Woman & A Man" album sessions have been recorded and done. Too bad.

musicaly - nice. but an averege DTS production...
If you like Belinda's singing. a Nice rock albom.

The mix is too crouded. Sometimes it seems like instruments are overloading eatch other. and the overal sound quality sounds like it's all synthisized sounds. not live like in Sting's DTS CDs.

If you like Belinda - buy it. If you're looking for a good DTS demonstration - skip this one.

Mature, Engaging Pop
Her punishment for not playing by the rules. Carlisle has had quite a ride in the 20 years she's been n the public eye, and for most of it she has had to fight the established music scene. . . musical exile from America, (our loss). Ever since the break-up of the Go-Go's she was expected to continue on the same musical path-sure we talk about growth as an artist, but Americans dont like that. Instead she's done what she wanted, and produced some of the most exciting, anthemic music ever.

On "A Woman And A Man" she further matures, offering a guilty slice of music cheesecake. Light orchaestral production dominates much of the album and Carlisle's voice never sounded better. She is perhaps the most expressive vocalist alive and much of the material was tailor made for her.

There is the buttery 60's sounding "In Too Deep" and "Listen To Love"- pure musical enjoyment. The funky "California" with Brian Wilson providing surfy backing vocals is a highlight, as is the Per Gessle penned "Alway's Breaking My Heart". In fact "Always Breaking My Heart" is the most rocking piece on the CD and finalizing the work is "Love In the Key Of C" a classic Belinda ballad, complete with slinky, sexual rythemes.

Perhaps the only problem, is that "A Woman And A Man" is a tad to conservative. It doesnt delve into any new territory. It does however, flow beautifully, and is one of the most solid pop albums from track one to track ten. When youre past Brittney, and tired of the cookie cutter music here in the States, pick this up.
