True Art
This woman is genius, I can't think of a REAL artist nowadays that stays true to herself like she does. I don't understand what people say about poor melodies or lyrics. She's not pop, that's what I love about this album, it's so classy, and in some ways mysterious. All of the songs have musical accompanying that just makes the album better, like the awsome guitar in the sexy song Sway or the violins in A Thousand Miles. Her lyrics are just to real, they need some reflection to completely understand what she's singing, they are not weak lyrics. And about her singing, it may be true she doesn't have a powerful voice or a lot of vocal range, but it goes with what she writes, making it a very personal atmosphere that with her piano playing can make you fall in love with her or be scared of what you hear (Wanted and Papa). I think the reason some people don't like her album is just because it's a derivation and mixture of classic rock, and classical music, with some pop and gothic with it.

A PERFECT album. . I just can't have enough of her, and she keeps getting better with her next albums. For my personal taste of course.

Want an informative review look here
She not only has a wonderful voice but also great sounding music. I've owned her third album for a while now and I love it. I listen to all types of music and Vanessa is definitely one of my absolute favorites. I didn't know she had two albums previous till I looked for a new release and found this one and harmonium. I am not disappointed at all, it was everything I was hoping it would be. You want to know how much I enjoy her music. . . . . the fact that I'm even writing a review for this says that in itself, because this is the only review I've ever given on anything. So if you like good, smooth, clean music definitely buy Vanessa Carlton. Also the fact that she plays piano so well just adds an incredible amount of enjoyment. I'm not kidding she is a diamond among pearls.

Still the Best.
There is rousing piano playing, booming declarations and tender, soothing lullabies, plus the warm, intimate and emotional personal stories. This was the first in the trilogy of Vanessa's three CD's and i think it's still the best. "Willing and Able" is Vanessa and she really delivers these songs about the yearning, the need, the search for and ultimately the disappointment of unrequited love. For example there are refrains such as "Say you will come and stop the rain" and "I am more than you will need". The realm of the sacred feminine is seldom expressed or comprehended in the everyday world, but here it is crystal clear. Fasten seatbelts and prepare for takeoff. Well anyway, that's how it seems up here. Up here, above the clouds! .

think michelle branch but with a piano = vanessa carlton

I think all her fans (including myself) will know her the most for her biggest hit "one thousand miles" just like bic runga will always be remembered for her song "sway", but still i think vanessa is still very tallented regardless of the comparisons to other female singers around when vanessa made this album. To be honest,at first i really noticed that vanessa carlton looks and sounds alot like michelle branch but with a piano instead of a guitar But too bad she didn't get the kind of fame and number of hits as michelle did even though vanessa is still around today making more music than michelle who i last saw her in that duet with carlos santana.

"In the palm of your hand..."
It is not her best as Harmonium and Heroes and Thieves but nonetheless, Vanessa's voice and songwriting showed amazing potential back then. Be Not Nobody is the debut album from Vanessa Carlton. Some of the songs are gorgeous like Ordinary Day, Sway, Twilight, Wanted, Paradise, and of course A Thousand Miles. Some songs don't stick like the previous ones I mentioned but I think Carlton was just finding her voice in 2002 and she more than made up for it with her last two LPs. There are some stunning moments on Be Not Nobody but you want real magic then check out her later works instead. Good luck!.
