Better than gold
How could anyone give a bad review to anything sung by Karen Carpenter? That voice!.

carpenters gold greatest hits
If you like the carpenters this is a great summary of their music. CD was in great condition and I received it before expected.

Gold indeed
However, this Gold issue sounds truly exceptional for such old material. There are more compilations of greatest hits by the Carpenters than on can shake a stick at. I remember the Carpenters very well indeed as I grew up in the 60's and early 70's. This version is not the double disc version with the same facade, and has 20 tracks. And while you can get the double disc with a wider song selection I am not sure if it will stand up from an audiophile's perspective as this is just Gold version is just awesome. All the major tunes are hear for you listening pleasure and oh what a pleasure it is to hear Karen Carpenter sing. Her loss was so tragic. If you think you can do without the additional tunes on the double disc set I highly recommend this version based upon it's overall sound quality. You will not be dissapointed.

Satisfactory!
It even contains 'The Rainbow Connection' from 'The Muppet Movie' with added auditory. This is a double-disc remastered set, full of all 'The Carpenters' biggest charting hits. I mainly bought this collection for 'They Long To Be (Close To You)' and got even more than what I bargained for. I wasn't alive when 'The Carpenters' graced the music scene, but i can still appreciate this great music. I first heard of 'The Carpenters' by shuffling through my aunt's music collection at a very young age and stumbled upon this great band. To be honest i'm not too sure what the hits are in this collection, but each and every one of these tracks goes down as one in my book. Not only a music lover but I have a weakness for ballads with charming melodies. Karen takes it away with ballads like 'I Just Fall In Love Again' 'Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again' 'Rainy Days & Mondays' & 'Yesterday Once More' along with other amazing songs that aren't ballads. If you don't have any material from 'The Carpenters' right here is a fine place to start, you wont be disappointed. What are you waiting for? Order your copy right now! .

An excellent compilation
Richard's expert arrangements and Karen's superb voice combined to create something special. During the seventies, the Carpenters had considerable success in the pop charts on both sides of the Atlantic with their brand of pop music.

They recorded plenty of original songs but some of their biggest hits were covers. Close to you is a Bacharach-David song, originally recorded by Dionne Warwick, but her version was not released as a single. Please Mr Postman was a huge American success for the Marvelettes (and was covered by the Beatles on one of their early albums). Jambalaya is an old Hank Williams song, while Ticket to ride is a Beatles classic.

Of the original songs, Top of the world was never originally intended to be a single. However, Lynn Anderson covered the song and had a major country hit with it. She might have had a pop hit, too, but the Carpenters wisely decided to release their own version.

The strangest song here is Calling occupants of interplanetary craft. Whether you like it or not, it demonstrates that Richard and Karen were always trying to do something different.

There are so many classics here including For all we know, We've only just begun, Rainy days and Mondays, Goodbye to love, Only yesterday, Yesterday once more and I won't last a day without you. You can't get all the great Carpenters songs on a single CD but the songs here are all excellent. Among the omissions are Hurting each other, Sweet sweet smile and All you get from love is a love song, but if those were included, others would have to be left out.

If you only want a single CD of Carpenters music, this is a good one to choose.
