Rosanne & I were pen pals in the 60's
She was advertizing in a teen magazine for a Beattle fan club. I never met Rosanne in person, but we were pen pals for several years. I saw the ad & wrote to her. That is how we became pen pals. Her first letter to me, stated that her father was a singer & he had a song out called "Ring of Fire". She wanted to know if I had heard of him? To be honest, I didn't know of him at that time. (This was in the 60's, all this was happening). Her & I went on to write many letters between us. The last correspondence I had from her, was a Christmas card from Tennessee. I still have that card & all her letters. I have always wondered, if she ever remembered me & saved my letters to her? I know this isn't the site to say this, but hey you got to give it a chance, if you can. If you somehow read this Rosanne, maybe you will remember me & give me a holler. Last name was Nichols, in Spokane, Wa. The reason I am over here in Amazon, is to buy your CD for someone special. .

The system for ordering is so easy even this caveman can do it; and, there are so many other options to buy including related other music by this performer. Loved the music. Love the way other areas of interest are promoted and access is a breeze.

Roseann is #1
I use to love this album - back when I had a cassette tape player - not I can listen it to it all the time.

Super Hits by Rosanne Cash
While she has never attained the level of recognition as her famous father, I feel that she has one of the finest voices in any genre of music. This is a collection of 10 of Rosanne Cash's best songs. This collection includes her most recognized song, "Seven Year Ache", plus "Tennessee Flat Top Box", "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party", and "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me" to name a few. One of my favorites is "Blue Moon With a Heartache". This song is written and sung with such emotion that it could only come from someone who has experienced heartache. Rosanne Cash is a super artist, and this is a collection that all Rosanne's fans should own.

Great Sampler of a Great Talent
was not the more comprehensive anthology that Rosanne merits and b. Glancing at a couple of the reviews below, I gather that some fans were a bit miffed that this budget "best of" sampler a. (and this from a 2001 review)its release seemed to herald the withdrawal of much of her original catalog from the market. Well, three years later, it appears from the Amazon listing that most, if not all, of the original releases are currently available (with at least two titles available as a "twofer"). And while there's no box set at present, there is at least a somewhat more comprehensive "best of" package as well.

Bargain "greatest hits" packages make a certain commercial sense. I'm sure I'm not the only one whose curiousity is piqued by a good bargain sampler and who in turn will seek out and purchase other (full price) items by the artist in question. I had heard a number of Rosanne's tunes over the years, but it took sitting down and listening to this great little package to win me over (and kick myself for having missed out all these years).

I remember liking "Seven Year Ache" back in the day, and up until recently, that probably would have been the only Rosanne Cash song I could have named if you held a gun to my head. That song like much of the selection here has something of a So. Cal. country rock sheen to it (a la Ronstadt/Asher), which is to say it's tasty if a little slick. But to even out the mix, there are also a number of more trad. styled numbers, like the clever "
My Baby Thinks He's a Train" and her dad's own "Tennessee Flat Top Box. " Rosanne seems at home in either setting, although, I have to say that in my case, the rootsier stuff was pretty much what won my heart.

When I mentioned to a friend that Rosanne was my latest discovery, she mentioned that she was a old fan, intrigued as she was by Rosanne's writing abilities (and that much is evident even in this limited sample), her bad girl past (about which I know nothing, but hey, she's John's daughter, so you gotta expect a bit of hellraising in her history), AND her compelling "less than perfect voice. " Well, I told her, from what I can tell, her voice is just about perfect for the material she selects, which is about all you can ask for. After all, knowing your limitations is part and parcel of being a good singer. And Rosanne Cash is indeed a good singer.
