donnalee However, Cash's "The List" really does not fall into that category. I'm definitely not a country western fan. She's folksy, smooth - very smooth. Recommend buying it - you'll enjoy it many, many times.
Terrific CD!
Not a single clunker. A terrific tribute to her father and to country music. The guest artists enhance her versions of the songs (Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello. . . ). My husband and I both love this CD.
Well worth the Money
She and very one on the CD can be proud of their creation. This is a great tribute to her father.
Don't miss this one
The story of how she came to get the list from her father is interesting and the music is really excellent. A great preview is available by downloading the podcast of the interview with Roseanne Cash done on NPR on Fresh Air, October 5, 2009. Can't wait for the next volume, as the list is 100 songs long.
One CD every five years?
She has a gorgeous, smart, compelling voice, and the "list" is perfectly chosen. If, like me, you are not a big consumer of CD's -- maybe one every five years -- buy this CD. Her stellar back ups (Bruce & Elvis) shine; "Sea of Heartbreak" is the most haunting I've heard, and she actually has an original interpretation of "500 Miles," an over-covered, almost fifty year old song! You won't regret this purchase.
