Awesome
It has exactly the right level of darkness - 'Loom of the Land' is really creepy for example; I'm convinced he's going to kill the girl. Until I bought this album 'Let Love In' was my favourite, but 'Henry's Dream' hasn't been off my cd player for weeks. The balance between the slower and more up-tempo tracks is perfect and in true Cave style the stories he spins just keep you going back for more. What I particularly like about this album is the gritty quality of Cave's voice in 'Papa Won't Leave You Henry' and 'Brother my Cup is Empty' and the way the tracks build up to a crescendo both musically and vocally, increasing the menace. For me this really is a work of dark genius and I'd recommend it strongly to any Cave fan: to those who aren't quite yet - this is an excellent place to start. .

Sheer genius
I had a dream Joe. This is a trip that requires no medicine. If your looking for Nick & Seeds music to add to your collection, your on target (and a little late but thats ok. . )here. My CD wore out and now I am replacing it online via MP3's. As I and many countless others have shared, you will quickly find this cd addictive and on occasion, reaching for that repeat function on numerous tracks. MR. Harding hit the nail on the head in his review, I am pretty sure that most reviews listed offer more evidence that this is just one of Nicks many jems.

Henry's Dream
Apparently, Nick Cave himself does not like this record. Henry's Dream being Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 1992 release is an aggresive and slightly insane release. I disagree. Whilst it is not as good as Let Love In. It is still quite good. The problem that I see with this album is that the lyrics are not as strong as on Let Love In. Papa won't leave you, Henry is a perfect example where he could have edited the lyrics a bit since it is a bit wordy and the singing sounds a bit pressed at times. As if he is affraid that he will not be able to fit in all the lyrics to match the melody. Still, there are other tracks such Straight to you that are more at tune with lyrics and melody. Still and all this i a very solid release and I give it 3 stars.

Album's Dream
FUll of rage, passion and. One of the best albums ever, directly from the best times of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. . . hear yourself.

NIck's dream that didn't quite came true
Being a big fan can immediately bring with it the danger of being to cheerful and praise too much on moments there should be a critical word. If you read my other reviews on Nick Cave, both cd' and dvd's, you'll understand that I am a big fan.

So here is my opinion about "Henry's dream", of which I think it's all but interesting. Nine songs are put on this album but only two are worth mentionning: The opening song "Papa won't leave you, Henry" and the closing "Jack the Ripper" are filled with passion, writing wit and energy. They're good, solid songs that, one would figure, would also do great during a live performance.

But it seems that Nick Cave has put all of his passion, writing wit and energy in these potential hits and somewhat neglected the rest. I am not saying that he did, but all other songs just sound dull and uninteresting. A strange thing to discover in a musical carreer that seems to consist of nothing but good or great albums from a man who seems to have an unending creative fury.

In my review of Beth Gibbons' solo album "Out of season" I wrote that with the exception of a few outstanding songs, the album gave the impression of a nightclub singer, singing her repertoire for the zillionth time, routine-like and no longer interested in herself or the songs she sings, while, at the same time, she's dreaming about better things.
The same can be said about this series of forgettable songs. I don't know what Nick was like at the time of writing, but what ever it was, it didn't do this album much good.
Luckily Nick would get his revenge some years later with the genious "Let love in", which would become one of his most terrific lyrical and musical outbursts he ever had.

All people have his ups and downs, this "Henry's dream" must be Nick's down, and between all the ups he has made, and probably still will make, it's more like a curiossity, a rare little thing, something we, both fans and singer, can easily put behind us without much noise.
