What a way to go out! This is Ultra Heavy stuff and Tom and Martin and Co. Judging from the bulk of reviews here, most people tend to agree that this last CF release was well worth the wait. are in great form on here. Over 73 minutes as only Frost can deliver. The packaging and artwork is also top notch and comes with a poster and lyric booklet to boot.
Some people will argue it's not really CF without Reed St. Mark or what have you, Sesa is awesome on the drums by the way at least in my opinion. Touring guitarist Erol Unala rounds up the line up. Oddly enough none of the members of this CF incarnation make it into Tom's new band Triptykon. As a footnote, St. Mark joined that lineup and is allready out. However, I digress. . . Monotheist is incredible upon first listen and I bow in respect to Tom and Martin and Erol and Franco, you guys went out with a hell of a bang!
Hats off to Tom for always being creative and knowing when to move on, it's not Frost without Martin or Tom and Tom has his next project allready going. I look forward to the next chapter.
A true classic
This is one of the very few I can listen to over & over. I hate listening to "albums" since most contain so much filler. It's dark, depressing & very moody - all of which works for me. If you looking for some nancy-boy band like Coldplay or the latest crap-rap this isn't for you. It's not emo or nu-Metal, so many just don't get it; what it is, is truly wonderful. Unfortunately looking like this will be the end of Celtic Frost - but this is a timeless piece of music from start to finish. Feel free to disagree, I don't care I'm going to be listening to this for the rest of my life & I'll happily do so.
Wow...I can't believe how many people like this????
I am a half deaf half burned out metal head that was thrashing like a maniac when most of the people who read this were not even born yet!! I am tollerant of all types of metal and find good in over two thousand different metal bands including everything by the frost that pre-dates this release and Im telling you this is GARBAGE. . . Nothing that makes me rock out. . . . no cool break downs. . . . . no blistering solo's. . . . . this sucks!!!!
Sorry about the spelling. . . . . JRK.
Extremely Depressing but Punishingly Fabulous
That doesn't seem so difficult. My best advice? Quite simply - pretend it's not CF. Pretend somebody tells you there's this pounding, passionate, heavy metal album you ought to hear. Not death metal, not fast thrash metal, but dark and with a lot of kick. Some songs slow down quite a bit, but there's "edge" to it. Just a fantastic piece of horribly gloomy metal. Oh, and again, it does thrash in parts but they really aren't trying to replicate their "tight change-up-well-oiled-thrash-machine sound" that, ok, I completely love! Treat this as a new band that's put out their first cd. Hell, why not? If you love metal you will love this piece so long as you don't dislike metal that is too slow or too downcast - hey, I'm going to invent a new genre - you heard it here first - "bummer metal" It's mine!!! It is slow and downcast in many parts but I don't think it's a boo, hoo, hoo piece of doom rubbish. Thanks, and enjoy - Strong Buy rating!.
Boring drivel
Bathory is my favorite band so no I don't hate extreme metal
But this is just boring to listen to.
