THE GREATEST CELTIC FROST ALBUM BUT...
EVERY SONG FROM START TO FINISH IS GREAT,I HAVE READ NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT THE PRODUCTION OF THIS ALBUM BY NO OTHER THAN TOM G. I LOVE CELTIC FROST AND TO MEGA THERION IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THEIR BEST ALBUM. WARRIOR HIMSELF WHICH IS ABSURD BECAUSE THE SOUND OF THIS ALBUM DEFINED THEIR GREATNESS EVEN MORE SO THAN MORBID TALES. I WOULD GIVE THIS ALBUM 100 STAR RATING IF I COULD BUT WHAT I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH IS THE BUTCHERING THAT THEY DID WITH THE ORIGINAL RECORDING. YOU MAY OR MAY NOT KNOW THAT TOM G WARRIOR DECIDED THAT THE ORIGINAL TRACKS OF THE USURPER AND JEWEL THRONE BE REMOVED AND DECIDED INSTEAD TO REPLACE THEM WITH IN MY HUMBLE OPINION,INFERIOR VERSIONS FROM THE TRAGIC SERENADES EP WITH A DIFFERENT MIX AND WITH MARTIN AIN'S BASS LINES ON IT. NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG,I LOVE MARTIN AIN BUT I BELIEVE THAT A MASTERPIECE SHOULD NEVER BE TAMPERED WITH REGARDLESS OF YOUR OWN SELFISH FEELINGS. WHY DENY THE FANS OF LISTENING TO THE ALBUM HOW IT WAS ORIGINALLY WHEN THEY COULD HAVE JUST ADDED THE 3 TRACKS FROM TRAGIC SERENADES AS BONUS TRACKS. IF YOU KNOW THE MUSIC ON THIS DISC AND HAVE LISTENED TO IT AS MANY TIMES AS I HAVE,YOU CAN HEAR THE DIFFERENCE OF THOSE SONGS WITH THE REST OF THE ALBUM. ANOTHER NEGATIVE POINT IS THAT DOMINIC STEINER IS BARELY EVEN CREDITED FOR HIS WORK IN THIS ALBUM. AFTER ALL HE PLAYED BASS AND HELP ARRANGE MOST OF THESE GREAT SONGS. ON A POSITIVE NOTE,THE INSERT IS VERY NICE WITH SOME GOOD PHOTOS AND LYRICS BUT IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE IT WORTHWILE. I WILL GLADLY GIVE UP PICTURES AND LYRICS JUST TO HAVE THE ORIGINAL RECORDING. AGAIN I HATE TO WRITE A NEGATIVE REVIEW ABOUT A BAND THAT I LOVE AND MORE SO MY FAVORITE ALBUM FROM THE BAND BUT IT IS NOT THE GREATNESS OF THE ALBUM THAT IS IN QUESTION BUT THE BUTCHERING THAT HAS BEEN DONE TO IT IN MY OPINION. .

I am simply responding to the claim one reviewer made that the songs on this album will "scare the **** out of you. I am not a fan of metal in general or death metal in particular so this is not a general review of this album. " Well, I guess different things scare different people, but the vocals sounds to me like an adolescent d****** bag trying to make his voice all scary and failing miserably. I kinda felt bad for the guy (assuming his intent was to sound menacing rather than funny). Lame pimply teenager trying to make scary voice does not = scary.

A classic
A great album all Black Metal fans need from one of the original evil trinity (Venom , Bathory and Celtic Frost) . Black Metal before it was called Black Metal .


This is Metal with a capital M.
It's got leather, growling vocals, pagan themed lyrics and some awesome riffing that helped lay the foundadtion for countless metal acts that would come after it. What can I say, this is pure Metal with a capital M. Even the french horns and the pseudo creepy high pitched spoken parts in some of the songs work somehow. It's not fast or slow but midpaced metal in most of the songs and the riffs are memorable as are Tom Warriors vocals. How could I have missed this album for all these years? If you're into metal then you owe yourself this album.
