Breathtaking - heartbreaking
Even with all the great music and heart rending themes on this album. Kasey Chambers has a certain magic that gets under you skin. . . a standout is the final "hidden" track titled "Ignorance". . . it is worth the whole album by itself! .


Outstanding Album for Kasey
I really liked the guitar work and Kasey's voice. I first saw Kasey on a Sound Stage video clip playing "Barricade and Brickwalls".

I bought this album and really got into it. It's not a real rockin album, but I fell in love with Kasey's voice and the lyrics. I like every song on the album, it has a wide range of style. The production is awesome.

This is my first Kasey album, and definately my favorite. . .

When the Lonesome Whistle Cries
I bought it because anything Lucinda Williams raves about is going to be interesting. For some reason, I didn't connect with Kasey's freshman set. This 2002 set popped into my pocket recently at a $2 sidewalk sale. I figured I'd give Chambers another listen. Whether it's me in a different space or Chambers, "Barricades & Brickwalls" is a more satisfying set for me. The title track is probably my favorite with its crunching electric guitars and its boogie feel that'd put a smile on Fred Eaglesmith's face, "You can chain me down on the edge of town; You can leave me there to die, but the railroad track will bring me back when the lonesome whistle cries. " "I found the answer but I never liked it," Chambers sings on electric blowout "Crossfire. " Several of the midtempo tracks like "If I Were You" & "On A Bad Day" work well. Gram Parsons' "Still Feeling Blue" is a given a casual hoe-down reading that will having you tap your foot, even if you don't quite remember the track. "Nullarbor Song" had me look up the location on the internet, a desert area of Australia with limestone cliffs that flavors the sad music of the track. There are few too many slow laments on the set like "A Million Tears" & "The Mountain. " However, there's enough great stuff here that it's well worth checking out. Enjoy! .


Dead Ringers
I love Lucinda and Emmylou, but I'd take Kasey any day. Catch yerselves on! Kasey Chambers has been incredible for years!!! When yer done buyin' all her solo albums (And ye'd BETTER!) go find the Dead Ringers stuff she did. I promise ye won't be disappointed! .


Australian Country!!!!!!!!!!


HM . I was a little reluctant i must admit, yeap! i know theres cowboys in Australia and i know theres a lot of simmilarityes between USA and the land downunder, i tought maybe she had that country spirit but she would have a Paula Cole/Tricia Yearwood hibrid style, but Casey performance is brilliant!!! and you can swear she was raised in Texas or Arkansas or Alabama, perhaps Tennesse , Miss Chambers sounds very American, very, very American old fashioned country, such as in 40s, 50s,60s and 80s (i consider her style skips the 70s i dont know if im wrong) "barricades and brickwalls" is an intense opening for this album, guitar sounds are really captivating and is the most dramatic track on this release, "not pretty enough" is a beautifull sad song, "crossfire" is my favorite track this song repressents the 80s influence and is the most "heavy" track the sound is so raw you feel you are inside a bar in the middle of a fight, "if i were you" is the most pop song in this effort, this album owns an amazing quality that you cant imagine untill you get it, Casey as you can realize for the cover have also certain sex appeal actually she have been voted and included into some men magazines countdowns FHM and Maxim for instance, so the whole combo worths, musical quality and beautifull presence.
