Another greatest hits album I'm just sick of the greatest hits album. As stated before, I'm a big Harry Chapin fan. The highlight of this album, however, is the lesser known songs included, such as "The Parade's Still Passing By", "Dancing Boy", "Flowers are Red", and "Dreams Go By". The rest of the album, however, is just a standard collection of Chapin's greatest hits, which are on a billion other albums. And if you want to hear the other songs, I recommend getting them on their original albums. Still not a bad purchase if you have a couple bucks to blow. .
Great Disc
Great disc. TAXI is one the saddest, and most beautiful love songs ever written.
"And other HITS" ?!?
In fact, as a (W)OLD Harry fan, I cringe at the word "hits. Like the first reviewer, I can't see the point of this compilation. " The Harry songs that bring to tears to my eyes like Story of a Life and Mail Order Annie do so because I remember seeing him in concert. (Go to YouTube and see what I mean. ) These songs could never be "hits. " I've kept very few of my old LPs but I never considered letting go of those big sheets of cardboard with Harry's mug on them.
If you've got an extra $5. 98 burning a hole in your pocket, donate it to a food pantry. .
What's the point?
Every song on this disc is available elsewhere. I guess I don't see the point of this compilation. I have all of Harry's albums on LP Vinyl and CD (except Short Stories, which is a cassette- haven't found it on CD yet); this adds nothing to the discography.
This would be a good one for someone who has NEVER heard of Harry (My God. . . ) to introduce them to the music, but I think the Gold Medal Collection is a better bet with more music and some interviews that really show who Harry is. . . . I know it's been almost 25 years, but I just can't write "was"- somehow, he's still here.
