Cher's Classic & Best Selling Album!
This one of a kind original album spawned the unforgettable title song "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves" which was Cher's 1st # 1 solo single! Also prob one of my top 3 most favorite Cher songs ever is here. . "The Way of Love" I absolutely love this song and can listen to it over and over, it is timeless and I think the quintessential love song in the sense of a love being over and how much it can hurt. There are many other great classic 70's tunes here that never get old. I love the original cover art also. I wish Cher's next LP, FOXY LADY would be released here in the U. S. in its original form & artwork. Overall this album gets a big 5 glowing stars because it is timeless and spawned some unforgettable hits that endure today! Highly recommended for every Cher fan wheather your a huge fan or not!!!.

Cher the 2nd time around, with Snuffy
Snuff Garrett her producer found a clean playful pop presentation that found Cher refreshing and young again. This lp certainly brought the Cher of the seventies up to date.
Her superb contralto is strong and lusty. "The way of
love",and "Gypsies Tramps and Thieves" shine on this vibrant lp. "I hate to sleep alone " resonates here as well. The maudlin, but heart-felt ballad ,"He'll never know" is perfect Cher pathos! She sings about her son secretly fathered by another man!
My only comment on the constructive side is that this lp feels a bit superficial, the new Cher sounding slightly too pop-ish and a tad too slick.
However, her follow-up "Foxy Lady" in 1972 went a step further, and carried more depth. It featured the excellent "living in a house divided"It has been released in uk but not here in cd form(USA).
Still, this cd sounds fresh in 2005 as it did in 1971. For the younger fan that missed her 2nd incarnation. . buy it!
Cher is a great pop singer.

Cher: Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves (1971)
This is an album that I have thoroughly enjoyed, which is weird, since I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. In 1971, after releasing five albums, Cher released her sixth album entitled, GYPSYS, TRAMPS & THIEVES. I cannot believe how great this album was and let me explain what made it so great.

THE WAY OF LOVE
The second single from the album. I was never really into this song, but it really is not a bad song.

GYPSYS, TRAMPS & THIEVES
The first single from the album. This song, which was the album's infamous title track, was Cher's first #1 song, as well as being her first #1 story concepted songs. This is a great song and it is great how it became Cher's #1 hit, although, "All I Really Want To Do", should have been a #1 as well.

HE'LL NEVER KNOW
Women are always saying that these days. They always think we'll never know, but we always do, don't we? Ha. This is a great song.

FIRE AND RAIN
I love titles of songs that include either the words, Rain, or Fire. This song contains both and it made me curious as to what it sounded like. Well, I loved it the first time I heard it and I cannot help but play it over and over.

WHEN YOU FIND OUT WHERE YOU'RE GOIN', LET ME KNOW
Not bad.

HE AIN'T HEAVY, HE'S MY BROTHER
Not bad.

I HATE TO SLEEP ALONE
On this song, Cher explains that she hates sleeping alone. But in 1987, when Cher recorded, "We All Sleep Alone", she explains she and some friends sleep alone. Hmm, I'm sort of confused. Anyhow, this is a good song.

I'M IN THE MIDDLE
I'll relate to this song, since I am a middle child, which puts me IN THE MIDDLE.

TOUCH AND GO
Okay.

ONE HONEST MAN
Not bad.

This is one hell of an album, not one of my all-time favorites, but great enough to enjoy for every Cher fan.

A SOULFUL DIVA!!! BRAVO CHER!!!!
Cher had officially arrived into the 70's as a Superstar with this soulful and hypnotic winner. As I child of the sixties, Cher's soulful voice caught my attention when "Baby Don't Go" became a hit in Los Angeles and Cher's voice stood out as something special which is what Cher has always been-something special! Throughout her fascinating career, Cher has taken a roller-coaster ride of highs and lows and this great album is definitely one of the highs! Television was a perfect showcase for this exotic DIVA and on the "Sonny And Cher Comedy Hour" Cher's solo's were always the highlight! "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves" was released in the early phase of this classic show and hit the top of the charts. This wonderful collection soon followed and so did another hit "The Way Of Love" which is torchy and soulful. Passionate and well sung is "He'll Never Know" and James Taylor's "Fire & Rain" is haunting. Every song is sung with complete feeling and Cher is right on target every time and it was very clear that this lady was going to be around for a long time! Big hits of the day such as "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" sound fresh and inspired in Cher's very capable hands and rhythm and timing are flawless on up-tempo rhythm rockers such as "Touch And Go". "I Hate To Sleep Alone" is stunning and superb arrangements throughtout make this album a keeper to played over and over for years on end!! Gypsy's, Tramps & Thieves is pure listening pleasure and a real artistic triumph for this lasting singer. Bravo Cher!!!.

Before the incarnations.....
Before she went Disco, 80's rock and 90's dance she recorded classic pop. 70's pop classic. "He'll Never Know" is a power ballad with a story, i always liked this one. "I HATE To SlEEP Alone" is pop, a fun little song reminiscent of Sonny and Cher. You got the Billboard hits. . . "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" and "The Way Of Love". Also some of the best rock covers. "He Ain't Heavy. . . . " has been covered by everyone from Al Green to Donny Hathaway but Cher puts her own spin to it with her specific low range. "Fire and Rain" is also nice. As a fan of pop spanning from 70's to the 90's, it's refreshing to have a cd that is enduring and sounds great in any decade. Not all Cher albums can be bestowed with that comment, but this does. Cop' it.
