The best rock band this decade Who do the 00's have? Where have all the great rock bands gone? Most of the best rock bands today are the bands from yesterday that are still making records. The 60's had the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, The 70's had Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, The 80's had Metallica and Van Halen, The 90's had Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. Great rock music is an art that is sadly fading away. These days rock is either whiney emo-screamo boy rock bands like Fallout Boy, commercialized bubble gum pop rock for teenage girls like Nickleback, or hard rock/metal posers like Godsmack or Puddle of Mudd. But there is still one beacon of light, shining brightly amidst all the talentless junk they call rock today. . . and that is CHEVELLE!
Chevelle absolutely rocks. They have it all, talented musicians, powerful lyrics, complexity, and an overall balance of everything that makes great rock. So few good (let alone great) HARD ROCK bands exist anymore. . . they are usually either tame, poppy, "glam" rock suited for the dance/r&b radio stations, or a weak attempt at heavy metal that sounds more like noise than music (heavy metal also has suffered in this decade, but that's for another review). Chevelle is what I would call Hard Rock, fitting nicely in between post-grunge alternative rock and heavy metal (with absolutely zero elements of pop-rock), which to me is not only a perfect balance, but a trait that few bands formed in the last decade or so have.
This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In) is my personal favorite album, but all of their albums are 5-star material. If you love rock music, the way it should be, and you have not heard Chevelle, you need to buy some of their works, you will be very happy you did.
Chevelle Rocks!
I love it!. They are like a combination of Tool, Disturbed, and yet their own.
Great Follow-Up to "Wonder What's Next?"
While "WWN?" focused on heavy intros, nu metal edge and brooding angst, "TKOTCDUI" focuses on melody and variety. Chevelle has made a marvelous follow up to "Wonder What's Next?" with this album I can only call vintage. While the nu metal freaks (like myself) will be slightly let down by the new style, all seeking progress in the bands melodic sound will be very impressed.
I, for one, am excited to see the band moving in a more cohesive direction overall (I still have yet to hear Vena Sera) and feel this is a very worthwhile album. . . While I got really into "WWN?" in all of it's charisma and edge, I am already becoming attached to this album based on it's maturity and better vocals.
Which brings me to my next point. The screams are MUCH improved on this album. While the passionate vulnerability is still there, so is an awesome edge that pushes the howls from bellows to roars. A really cool addition!
In summary, buy this album if you like what you've heard of Chevelle and want to hear more!.
Boring
They do sound too much like they're imitating Tool here, especially the singing. All the songs sound the same, so it gets old really quickly. Most effective when you're pissed off.
pretty good cd from chevelle
ive heard most of their other songs and never really cared for them but i decided to buy this one cause i liked the clincher and vitamin r, and the rest of the cd is pretty good aswell. this is the only cd from chevelle that i own but its a good one. despite having only 3 members this cd is quite heavy and the bass player is good. the only complaint is that alot of the songs sound the same but i guess if you like one song youll like all of them. solid hard rock cd.
