timeless music from one of the best bands ever The quality of the sound is excellent and the artwork is pretty consistent with the artwork for the original record album release. Chicago IX: Greatest Hits has fantastic numbers by Chicago; and there's not a dud in the bunch! This band never failed to please their fans; they remain well known to this day.
The CD starts with Chicago doing an outstanding job on "25 Or 6 To 4. " "25 Or 6 To 4" is one of their biggest hits ever; and it still sounds good today. The drums and percussion are quite good; and the arrangement makes good use of the guitar as well. Chicago performs this to perfection and it makes a strong opening number for the album. Similarly, "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" is another Chicago masterpiece that is very, very memorable; "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" gets the royal treatment from these guys and they never falter, either! How's about the brass, too?
"Colour My World" is one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard; the keyboard work enhances this number quite a bit. Chicago performs "Colour My World" with a great deal of passion and genuine feeling; and I'm very impressed. The tune also has a laid-back flavor to it that shows just how warm, safe and good a true love can be. I love it! In addition, "Just You 'N' Me" charms me with its natural beauty; this is yet another love song that soars when Chicago gives this their all. Wow!
"Saturday In The Park" is a huge highlight on this album; Chicago makes this shine brighter than silver and gold combined and it's a most dynamic number. "Saturday In The Park" is a number you're bound to love if you haven't heard it already. Listen also for "Feelin' Stronger Every Day;" "Feelin' Stronger Every Day" mesmerizes me and I could never tire of hearing Chicago do this tune. "Feelin' Stronger Every Day" also showcases Chicago's fine ability to handle complex tempo and key changes like the pros they were and still remain! "Make Me Smile" has that late 1960s/early 1970s sound to it that rocks really well; this rockin' tune celebrates the joys of true love.
"Wishing You Were Here" works on several levels at once; I love how Chicago delivers this with so much passion. "Wishing You Were Here" is a marvelous song that deals with a man's feelings about a love; and Chicago ranks very high in my book when I hear numbers like "Wishing You Were Here. " "Call On Me" has an excellent musical arrangement; and there's another gem in "(I've Been) Searchin' So Long. " "(I've Been) Searchin' So Long" has a sound that is simply unforgettable; this will always be one of Chicago's best hits of all their time together. The CD ends very nicely with Chicago performing "Beginnings;" "Beginnings" is very strong and it will leave you wanting more.
Chicago IX: Greatest Hits is good for fans of this group; but admittedly they may well have these tunes already. Therefore, I think that this album is especially good for people just discovering Chicago; they will not be disappointed!

Chicago IX rocks
I just love groups with a good horn section and Chicago had one of the best. Boy, does this cd bring back memories. The early Chicago is the best!!! I was a child of the 70's and these guys were one of my staples of rock music.
Good CD
Lots of great songs on this CD, but I'd recommend a more recent "greatest hits" release from Chicago if you don't already have this one.
9 IS FINE. NO QUESTIONS ASKED
Almost all of the landmark radio tunes from 1969 to 1975 are present. In Chicago IX: Greatest Hits, the 11 tracks are assembled and arranged perfectly. You have the early hits Make Me Smile, 25 or 6 to 4, as well as the 1970s Adult Contemporary standard, Saturday in the Park. In this package are the early contributions of Peter Cetera, Robert Lamm, and the late, great Terry Kath, all of whom had distinct vocals and personalities.
I will give Chicago IX: Greatest Hits 5 stars, for like The Eagles' Greatest Hits, all songs are a great joy to listen to. If you are able to recall where you were in the 1970s, then listening to the music will cause you to relive certain, fond moments. Knowing that there have been essential collections and anniversary boxed sets of Chicago released since, I would suggest that if Chicago IX is re-released that it should be in distinct fashion as a deluxe set with either a 5. 1-mix disc included, as was the case with The Beatles' Love, or a disc containing essential live performances by Chicago, as MCA Records has intermittently done with its artists.
All in all, I will sum it up for Chicago IX, as I did earlier for the soundtrack from the movie, Invincible. If you love the 1970s but hate the disco from that period, this is an ideal collection for you.

Still One of the Best Greatest Hits Collections by Any Artist
The songs here are all of Chicago's top ten hits from 1969 through 1974. While Rhino's re-issue of this classic greatest hits collection by pop superband Chicago may be "unnecessary" in light of so many other great Chicago collections out there, this one is an all-time classic and deserves the re-mastering and re-issuing treatment it has received. That's all, just eleven songs. But these are no ordinary eleven songs. These are some of the greatest pop tunes of the rock era and most enduring tracks ever heard on radio. Chicago changed the face of pop rock radio with these gems, and while the band continued to make great music and release many more catchy, musical hit singles, "it" never got better than this.
Chicago IX Greatest Hits was in everyone's LP collection in the 70's as it was a huge seller when released in 1975. And, this classic still deserves to be in every music lover's CD collection as it is one of the best greatest hits collections by any artist. Period. .
