One of Clutch's Best Albums
I really find it to be such a shame that they're not very well known worldwide, because they're such an amazing rock band, and so good at what they do. Clutch are simply one of the most underrated and hard working bands in rock. They definately live up to all hypes whenever there is no hype whatsoever. I bought Clutch's 1995 self-titled album (which is the band's second full length album) not too long ago, and I was instantly hooked to it afterwards. This album has really risen to be one of my favorite rock albums, it just gets better and better everytime I listen to it. Clutch's sound has sure evolved throughout the years, and every album that they have released just seems to top the previous one, but the self-titled album is definately one of Clutch's best albums, no questions asked. This album has a bit of everything from rock and metal, to blues and jazz, and even some rap. Neil Fallon is such an amazing vocalist and songwriter. The guy can growl, wail, shout, whisper, scream, and sing, I mean his range is just outstanding. His lyrics are very funny, yet very intelligent at the same time. Tim Sult is a fantastic and versatile guitarist, who can crank out lots and lots of thick, heavy, and addicting riffs and catchy, infectious bluesy lead lines. Bassist Dan Maines and drummer Jean-Paul Gaster meanwhile, both provide an infectiously powerful and groovy rhythm section in the background with awesomely tasty and groovy basslines from Maines and perfectly executed drumwork by Gaster. Every song on the album is simply excellent and flat out addicting. "Big News I" is an awesome and cool opener that is highlighted by a cool and incfectious bass groove and hilarious lyrics, and is followed by it's heavier sequel "Big News II". Track three "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw" has a nice, raw rap/rock feel, and track four "Texan Book of the Dead" is a catchy and addictingly aggressive rocker that boasts energetic vocals from Neil, heavy, aggressive riffs, and an addicting shout along chorus: "Ooeeooahahtwingtwangwallawallabingbang", "Ooeeooahahtwingtwangwallawallabingbang oh yeah", "Ooeeooahah B-I-N-G-O", Ooeeooahah E-I-E-I-O". . . Words just can't decribe how funny and catchy that chorus is, it's one of the best choruses I've heard in any song. Other favorites here include "Escape From the Prison Planet" and "Spacegrass" which are both two of the best songs that Clutch have ever written (the former being highlighted by an awesome chorus riff, and the latter track featuring soft and moody sections that boast nice, groovy basslines and whisper like spoken vocals and heavier sections that boast groovy, heavy riffage and growly wails, and I like Neil's growly shout of "Jesus on the Dashboard" that lead into the heavier sections). "Spacegrass" is one of those songs that is just perfect for cruising at night, and it's also my favorite song by Clutch as well. Other great songs that I highly enjoy here include "Animal Farm" which is a great 2 minute groovy yet high energy rocker, "I Have the Body of John Wilkes Booth" which a slower, yet catchy and infectious bluesy rocker, as well as "Droid", "Tight Like That", "7 Jam" and of course "Tim Sult vs the Greys" which is a stunning album closer that leads on immediately from "7 Jam". Seriously, I don't even find one single bad song on this whole album, they're all boss. All in all, Clutch's self-titled album is defiantely one of the best rock albums of the 90's, and as I mentioned before it's one of Clutch's best albums in their catalog as well. Overall, this album is highly recommended to any fan of Clutch and any fan of rock or metal alike. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed. .

A Top 10 Album of All Time.
I thought, what better thing to review than this self-titled second full length album from my favorite band for some 16 odd years. This is my first review for anything on the internet ever. Clutch is an ever changing and growing band. They constantly tour and produce new material.
While all their albums are great, none to date duplicate this conceptual hard-core/stoner/jam rock masterpiece. This album from begining to end is brilliant. I truly cannot convey how significant it is to me. I own thousands of cds/albums/cassettes etc. of every musical genre you can think of and I can say with a straight face that this album belongs in the Top 10 of all time.
Buy this album ,and all of their albums. Start from the beginning and you will not stop following their unique sound. One more thing ,check for Clutch playing live near you. If you've never seen them,go. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for reading this.

HOW IT SHOULD SOUND
IT SEEMS THIS ALBUM HAS ALL OF THE ELEMENTS THAT CLUTCH HAS BEEN BUILDING ON AND REFINING IN THIER NEWER DEBUTS. CLUTCH'S BEST ALBUM. IT IS UNADULTARATED LEAN MUSCLE FIBER BOOSTED BY RAW ADRENILINE GLANDS. CLUTCH IS MY FAVORITE BAND AND THIS ALBUM HAS NOT LEFT MY CD CHANGER FOR A LONG TIME. THIS ALBUM ALONG WITH PURE ROCK FURY , ELEPHANT RIDERS & EXODUS MAKES FOR A NICE CLUTCH RATIO. IF YOU LIKE TO JAM TILL THE CLUTCH PLATES NEED REPLACED SPEED SHIFT TO A RETAILER NEAR YOU AND PURCHASE TRANSNATIONAL SPEEDWAY OR PITCHFORK LOST NEEDLES.

GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS.

One of the best Rock album of the 90's
if you like clutch there's not a bad song here. This album was my tempest in the 90's. too bad they kinda decided to bc a "hippy-esqu" jam band in recent live shows. keep hopeing for this type of no nonsense muscle from them.

CLUTCH is the most underrated band!
Blues, rock, metal, jazz, even RAP! (Rock and Roll Outlaw has that raw rap-rock feel to it. This album has a little of everything from Clutch. ) In the beginning, Clutch was more of a mainstream hard rock/metal band. But the band had evolved into something more complex and spontaneous that it makes this band so under rated that the gov't should make it a law to have Clutch on every rock station in heavy rotation. I have just about every single CD Clutch has put out. I can't wait for their new one to come out! Electric Worry is a great tune with a little "bluesy" surprise! Bottom line: You can not go wrong with any Clutch album. To Clutch newbies: I recommend to start with this album (self titled Clutch)and follow up with Pure Rock Fury. This "jump" from 1995 to 2001 will give you the "taste" of pure Clutch in it's ever growing, reinventing style! Each album has it's own feel/vibe/taste to it. Any really good, talented band does this. That's the whole point of buying/making music is some fresh tunes, right? .
